She is not clear on her grading requirements, she told us the syllabus was our guide, after our presentation she told my group we couldn't pass because we didnt use a video, we fought this and won our grade, but she was adamant enough to stress us out, she also claims to have integrity, but i felt bullied, she was my only bad experience at kwantlen

Great teacher who encourages students to think critically. Easiest class ever, I received an easy A+. One thing though, you won't do well without a textbook because all her assignments are based off of the text. Good luck!

Leaves 80% of final grade to last 2 weeks, syllabus incomplete and incomprehensible. Final project spontaneously changed to be 30 pages (syllabus said 10 max) 2/3 of the way through course. Decent course material, though quite a grind. Helpful but not very clear, and her whole 'don't focus on marks' attitude is total BS.

She is useless, leaves 75% of the mark for the final day, in the syllabus says a ten page paper, then changes her mind and says she wants it to be 30 pages, acts like she wants to help, but just adds useless homework whenever she feels like it. regret taking her.

She's honestly quite an easy prof. All you have to do is literally log on once a week and participate in the discussions which counts as class participation. There were no exams, just final assignments - so easy! Although, if you slack off then you will be behind for sure because she does not accept late assignments.

Worst instructor ever. Came to class dressed liked for a party. Group project in the first week and half. Very unclear with instructions. Very Hard marker. Terrible at responding properly when you need help. Requires self-evaluation for every assignment (seriously??). ADVICE TO ALL: AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS! DO NOT LISTEN TO OTHERS!!!

Worst instructor at Kwantlen. Unclear, not open to criticism and makes you write a self-evaluation for EVERY little thing you do. She wants you to be a critical thinker yet trumps any thinking that is not her own. I will not reccomend her to anyone. She should not be teaching. Truly passionate about her job and the subjects which she teaches. She is the most helpful instructor at Kwantlen and is willing to listen to any issue that may be affecting you regarding your course or outside of the classroom. Might not be the easiest instructor in Kwantlen, but will help you at every step in your career as a criminologist.

Not good!! She is all over the place. No clear outline. Pointless little homework assignments all semester. Not one person had a clue what we were getting graded on because there is no notes and no tests. And then BAM!! You realize your reseach project is your entire grade and its due in like 3 days. AHHH

Whenever Joan would ask for feedback, if you give any type of criticism towards she wont accept it and will try and make you look wrong even though someone is trying to tell her how to improve teaching areas, such as clarity. That really frustrated me, please take into consideration we are your students and if your entire class is trying to explain

She has good intentions, and tries really hard - but I find that she doesn't lecture much. Maybe its just the course. Its up to you to read the text on your own. Online class. She teaches NOTHING. Her "notes" are the ones the publisher puts out. She marks so easy, I got an A+ without an extreme amount of effort. You MUST nag her about the criteria for the project or she will claim you didn't follow instructions and ding you. I walked away from this class feeling like I didn't learn very much at all. Easy A.
