Great teacher, nuturing and has great respect for her students. Knows what she is doing. My writing improved greatly (I'm an English major). Very helpful constructive criticism unlike some profs who just give you the good of your writing. Missing more than 2 classes will definitely effect your grade, so don't miss.

I can't believe there's a single person with a negative word for Professor Meschery. Some of the long-winded rants about her sound a little like tenured co-workers who are jealous that her classes are full, leaving them with her run-off of waitlisted students. She selflessly cares about her students & a lot of SDSU profs only care about ego.

she is a really nice person, and said positive helpful things about peoples stories in class. but the class was so huge that it was hard to get comfortable with sharing. on weekly assignments she didnt give much feedback at all. lots of feedback on the story presented in class. otherwise just one or two words. nice individual. mediocre class.

Excellent teacher. Very inspirational and beneficiary to those who want to be real writers. Very flexible and not afraid of controversy in your writing. Gives excellent advice on eveything you turn in, and you will turn something in almost every time you meet. One of the funnest classes I have ever taken. She is splendid, go take her!

A real sweetheart and truly wonderful person. Really tries to get on the story's wavelength and offer constructive, practical comments. While I loved her, my fellow classmates bored me and made class a yawn--I've found more of the cliched writers in the program take her class (afraid of Jaffe, for whatever silly reason). Just an observation.

She made this class so easy. Even tho we had too many students & had to edit 4-6 stories a week, it was still fun & very engaging. Everyone in the class seemed to like her & she even made the non-Eng. majors comfortable w/presenting thier work. Very helpful advice on stories & creates relaxed atmosphere.

bs. she's open to anything. i came to her with an innovative idea to her office and she was very excited about it. i haven't done it yet but i know i'll have her support if/when i do. she's open to all kinds of writing styles; her interest lies in helping us grow in the direction we wish to grow. wonderful prof and human being.

A very nice woman but as a professor she is not great. If you write anything innovative she will turn away. Her class was like group therapy or a high school writing class. Pretty vanilla stuff. Show up every week and turn in stories about finding your birth mother, the Civil War or what you did on summer vacation and collect your A!

Joanne really turned my writing around, helped me to give it structure and convey my meaning better. And she is political--very political. Those of you saying she isn't are just Jaffe drones who listen to all his **** about every professor who isn't him. Talk to her, you'll see what I mean.

Joanne is one of the most helpful and nurturing professors at SDSU. She makes students feel comfortable presenting their writing. Take the time to get to know her, she is such a great lady. The type of teacher you want to keep in touch with years after college.

The best professor at SDSU. She teaches a lot of good stuff about writing. She's honest, humble, and very fair. She is not arrogant like other professors, she sees her students as if they were her friends. Even though she's been published three of four times, she doesn't have that air of superiority

Had a great time in her class and appreciated the constructive criticism she provided. Didn't agree with all of her suggestions, but they were definitely helpful on subsequent drafts. She wasn't arrogant at all and I believe she kindled the collective creativity in my class.

I really hoped to learn to be a better writer, but this professor is incapable of doing the job she was hired to do. You are on your own in this class, and if you want to learn, choose another instructor.

Joanne is awesome. She makes her workshops fun, she is funny, and she is very helpful. She explains thigns well, gives helpful handouts to read on various subjects. I don't know why anyone would say they are busy work - they prob didn't even read them.
