I got an A in his class only because I figured him out. If you have any interest in having original thoughts, avoid entirely. He's the worst professor I've ever had: he only wants you to repeat everything he says, he doesn't understand the idea of interpretation, and he spends 90% of the discussion fishing around for the correct answer. Avoid.

This class is easy if you put his lecture and handouts into an essay, do not try to have your own opinion on a film. He'll say it's wrong and fail you. The Hitchcock class is amazing, only take the Woody Allen class if you know you like Allen otherwise its horrendous.

Miller is sort of senile, which leads to him being un-PC and forgetting stuff sometimes. If you take notes and basically spit back what he said in your essays, you will get a good grade. A few of the films that you watch in his class are somewhat boring, but I enjoyed most of them - other people hated them, though.

He's extremely easy. Here's the clue. Write down EVERYTHING he says...That's all he wants for his papers...exactly what he says...don't put in your own thought... he will literally fail you.

Miller was great. I thought he was hilarious, and he didn't grade the papers too harshly either. I recommend him.

I'm posting this to let you know, Miller is slipping a bit. He makes little mistakes all over the place - wrong names, wrong places, can't remember, etc. - and does it all the time. It makes it infuriating when it's paired with his "I know everything ever about the entire history of movies" attitude. Pick one and run with it!!! A real hardhead.

Professor Miller is a weird guy. He won't correct you if you call him "Doctor" - but he's not one. He's definitely a harmless but inveterate misogynist - women are inequal, and often lesser to him. You have to tell him what he wants to hear - but that's ok, he wants proof you're learning what he says. He can be very insulting and insensitive. Weird

Had to go to all the classes and know what he told you but if you can remember everything he said you will do well.

Miller is very abrasive. Yes, he will hand your behind to you on a plate and be extremely rude at times. But he's an NYU film grad with a sharp eye for "icons," similarities of a director in many of his films. Particularly sharp on Hitchcock. Loved all his classes, some of my favorites in the school. Took him 3 times. Definitely take him for film.

People say the class is hard if you enjoy film, but I disagree. I think he picks good movies, and knows what he's talkin about.

If you have a sincere interest in film, you'll find Miller's classes very frustrating. There's no room for creativity, and he's not interested in ideas that differ from his own. Ladies, watch out -- he's harmless, but often inappropriate.

Miller's method and style is very frustrating for people who have studied film in the past. The only way to do well in his classes are to show up each week and regurgitate, word for word, his handouts on your essays. His comments are unhelpful and sometimes offensive and I would suggest staying away

Professor Miller was my all-time professor at Maryland. Not only was he a great teacher who knew a lot about film, he also made the class very interesting (believe me, I've actually taken some pretty bad and boring film classes).
