Very nice person, but I found I didn't maintain a lot of the information I learned in his classes due to his approach to teaching. A lot of memorizing...but if you work hard, the CAPSI courses are an easy A.

I took the capsi course this fall with him, and although I'm still unsure about this approach to teaching (for the final, it's a lot of memorizing) I find him very helpful. Despite the fact it was a distance ed course, he helped me out a lot and was very friendly. Work hard, you'll get a good grade.

His approach to teaching is meant more for people that like to learn on their own. CAPSI courses require a lot of responsibility on the individual to do their work in a timely fashion. If you are someone who can work on your own and set limits, CAPSI courses are for you. That being said, Dr. Pear is such a teddy bear. Always open to questions.

This course was HORRIBLE! I received a good grade only after I memorized 50 pages of notes that made no sense whatsoever. Webcapsi is the WORST method of teaching ever; avoid him & his many other capsi courses like the plague! You won't learn a thing & you may actually fail a course that could have been easily understood if it was taught properly

DEAD SERIOUS: I knew about 10% of the class material &got an A. His class was a joke! About 1/5 of the class went to lectures... last time I checked, halfway through. He's the worst prof I've had. If you didn't take stats, you'll fail. Only reason I passed was because I had LOTS of friends who gave answers. SERIOUS warning: Wait for another prof.

STAY AWAY! You dont learn a thing from Pear. Only about 10/60 people attended class regularly. Avoid for 2260 if you can. He doesnt prepare you for future stats courses. He wrote the text too so it is not of any help. He seems confused during his own lectures. A good mark is possible, but if you want to understand the material try another prof.

If you have taken stats 1 then this course will be decent for you. However if not then STAY AWAY! It sounds easy because of Capsi and the in-class assignents marked on effort but if you really want to learn psyc stats then dont bother. The text is unclear and the lectures are pointless. Furthermore, you learn matrix algebra..which, among other topi

Takes an unorthodox approach to teaching statistics. Take the course with him if you want an easy grade, but not learn or understand anything (and hence be screwed for future stats courses, of which there are many in psych.). Otherwise, AVOID AT ALL COSTS for 2260. Steer way clear of this man for stats courses, if at all humanly possible.

He's a nice guy but he actually doesnt explain anything and says the same thing in 10 different ways. 10/70 people regularly went to his class. He wrote our text so that didnt help either. It was the most boring pointless class I have ever been in. Avoid him like the plague. His lectures would be a great way for insomniacs to get some sleep though.

He is obviously very intelligent and likely an excellent researcher. The problem with this course, is that we need to memorize pointless material, such as 'What is a number', and WEBCAPSI is not set up very well to answer questions on the general linear model. This leaves little time to actually study statistics which might be useful.HorribleCourse
