Professor Walsh's class was the most challenging one I have taken thus far, but I would definitely take his class again. He appreciates class participation and expects a lot out of his students, but because of this you learn a lot. He is always available for help, and wants everyone to succeed.

Walsh is an eccentric and hilarious guy. He's very funny in his lectures. Lots of stuff to read for homework and get ready because he might put you on the spot to answer questions without you raising your hand. However, if you put effort in, you're gonna be fine. He was a lot as a first semester freshman, but learned a lot and had fun.

READ EVERY WORD OF THE EMAILS HE SENDS YOU. All the important info is in emails - he will change due dates, required page lengths, & tell you what to know for exams in emails only & never mention it in class. Wish someone had told me to pay closer attention to the emails.

This is my third time taking Walsh. Although he is a tough grader, expects more from you than other teachers, does not baby anyone, I choose to take him over and over again because I actually learn. He offers extensions, i always available for office hours, and gives you a chance to redeem yourself if you do poorly on a test/paper.

Great man overall, tough grader on papers and his lectures are important to listen to and participate in. His tests are from the readings and from class lectures but are all fair questions and he isn't trying to trick you. If you participate at least once in every class it will help you out in the long run because he cares about participation.

Absolutely great professor. Essays were graded harshly but not unfairly and grammar is SUPER important. I took his Gladiators and Roman Spectacles class and was actually surprised how -not difficult- it was. I definitely didn't get an A because of my essay scores but there only a few assignments and the readings were enjoyable.

Walsh is.. an experience. He's a very cool, fun guy who will keep you on your toes all class. Establish banter from the first time you meet him, even if he seems scary. You will get your lowest grade on your first paper, but it is possible to pass, so try your best to do exactly what he wants. And get a head start on the Iliad over the summer!!

Dr. Walsh's class is the hardest thing I have ever done. He was very blunt, and even said "everything you say is insignificant and meaningless." I did learn A LOT in his class. However, I stayed up until about 1 in the morning every night working for his class. Be prepared to be knocked down a few pegs. Overall grades are arbitrary, so all A's .

Hard teacher. Very respected but I would not take him again because he was a stressful class. He cares about his students, though, and I'm glad I know him.

Prepare to fail your first paper; it's inevitable. But don't worry. As long as you put in A LOT of effort and participate frequently, you can do well in his class. By no means is his class easy, and you really might hate it while you have it; however, if you stick with it, Walsh will single handedly make you a much smarter human.

You won't fully appreciate Walsh until you don't have him anymore. I miss him and his class! He is so interactive, so lively, and so passionate about the subject. He's tough, but he is such a great guy, he's brilliant, and he wants his students to succeed. Get ready to read!

Professor Walsh has high expectations but is an absolutely fantastic teacher. At the time I thought the class was too much but looking back he was extremely helpful. Very cool guy and his passion for the classics is contagious.

I had Walsh for History of Christmas and I absolutely loved him. He's a really tough grader and you must do the readings, which can be 60p. or higher, but he made me a better writer and student. Meet with him before papers and he'll really help you, since some topics have no wrong/right answer. Both relieved and sad that I won't have him again.

Dr. Walsh is a great guy. The class definitely requires a lot of work, but if you do it all, you will do just fine in the class. He is one of the best professors here, and is so smart. If you're willing to do some work, definitely take him! He's worth it!

If you are interested in reading crazy amounts a week and getting ridiculous and lengthy assignments, this class is for you. If not, stay far away from the history of christmas. The class begun with 20 students and dwindled down to 4, I think that says enough.

great guy, you'll learn alot from him, just not the stuff you're supposed too. if you are not interested in learning (i.e. just looking for a grade) don't take him because he's always looking for participation and his grading is somewhat archaic. if you enjoy class discussions and don't mind getting completley off topic then you'll enjoy his clas

Walsh is extremely scary at first. He assigns an insane amount of reading and calls on you to answer questions about everything. If you aren't willing to work or aren't motivated to do well, you won't like his class. If you stick with it which seems hard, you'll learn the most you've ever learned.

Comment:
Walsh assigns too much reading and never comes close to going over all of it. He is extremely pretentious and he is much too hard of a grader. He thinks this is the only class students are taking and assigns work as if that is so. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLAS WITH HIM.
