He is like a first draft ... disorganized and full of tangents. He wouldn't be very pleased if you handed in a first draft in to be marked so to answer why he lectures like one would require a large team of academics.

This man is sooo boring and irrelevant in his lectures. Thankfully I already loved literature or he would have turned me off it. Also, on another positive note, my TA was amazing.

I personally loved John and he was my tutorial leader. He was very approachable for questions/essay proposals. There were a few times where he wasn't completely clear about the content on a test or two but when he acknowledged these mistakes, he was very understanding and made revisions. Very interesting to talk to and he knows his stuff.

If you listen to him carefully, you can understand what he says. Although he does have a tendency to deviate from the topic.

He is a terrible prof. He rambles on and on, and there are many times where he himself does not know what point he was trying to make. He does a lot of poetry, and is very unclear about texts. Reliance on a TA is necessary as his lectures don't give much insight. Terrible prof.

Think twice! He is older and confusing. Speaks a lot of English jargon that a first year student would be totally lost in his class. He talks a lot, is very unorganized and expects you to do a lot of learning on your own. It is possible to do well in this course by doing the work and asking for a lot of help. most assignments are essays

In his lectures he tends to go way off topic but if you get him as a TA leader he is great. Very nice man and very helpful as long as you are willing to do the work. I went to see him about my final paper and he was very willing to help.

As a lecturer he tends to go off topic a lot, but at the same time as a tutorial leader he is fantastic. As long as you seem genuinely interested he is helpful. If you find something confusing or if you need tips on completed a assignment go and talk to him.

His lectures are very meandering and unhelpful. He seems like a nice and interesting guy.. but not a great lecturer. Go to tutorial, read webct, but really there is zero need to go to his class. I haven't gone since the third lecture and I'm getting an A+.

This professor once pulled me aside to give me personal insight as to the way I write, I took his criticism seriously, and he has prepared me very well. I did well, I received an A on my final essay. He trails off, but not in a boring meandering way, always interesting, and he's still around because he is passionate, you can see it.

Rather thick Irish accent when he reads aloud. Great TA, but rambles on in lectures. Be participative to get good grades in class.

A nice guy and intelligent but he does not know how to lecture. I liked when he would introduce the class with a video (usually music which is nice) but than after that he would just start rambling for the entire lecture. I was always bored out of my mind; It was a pain. It was a hard class mostly because no one knew what the heck was going on

This is an amazing prof. He is sarcastic in the best way, and is noticably brilliant. He seems to trail off in lecture because he is enjoying the topic. As a T.A. he is very helpfull, and encourages discussions. If you are willing to participate in class and online you will love english literature for the rest of your life.

After a student asks him to explain Iambic Pentameter before the exam: "It's too late! You should know it by now." That's ridiculous! It's never too late to learn anything and should be encouraging rather than telling us, basically, that we're going to fail.

One of the worst things about having to go to his lecture was having to look at him for an hour. Horrible lecturer! goes complete off topic. Had to learn most of the info on my own time in order to do well/pass the course. Try taking this course with another prof.

Horrible lecturer...he does not know how to explain things. He talks about things in lecture that are unrelated to the course material that students read. Perhaps he could talk more about the poetry we read rather than whatever he discusses. The worst professor I got in my first year!
