Comment:

Calculus 1 was/is my only math requirement, but this was the hardest class I have ever taken and failed. The homework he gives is NOTHING compared to the exams. Your grade is based on only 5 exams. That means no buffer for bad test grades. He offers no extra credit. Went to office hours and still failed. If you suck at math you will struggle A LOT.

His classes are very difficult but hes a great teacher and really makes sure you understand why you are doing what you are doing. He often will use the same questions on exams (maybe with different numbers) so utilize the tutor and people who have already taken the class. And even though he is a Boston fan, he is still a great person

I was placed into Calculus my freshman year and it was the hardest class I have ever taken. Our only grades for the class were strictly based on tests. He'd assign homework every night but we never went over it in class, so I would never know if I was doing it right. He also would give test questions that were nothing like what we did in class.

His Calculus course is based primarily on his own teaching. In my opinion he is very linear with his style of teaching and grading as if he preaches the motto "it's my way or the high way" type of work. It is important to know that if you do not complete the work the way he taught it you or you won't pass. Not my style or type of prof.

To give you an idea of how bad he can be with grading. He gave us an extra asignment to help our grades out. He decides to make it count as a quizz grade He then grades said project. And while all his conditions were met and he says " everything was fine" he took 20% off because he didn't like how you did it. Even if he didn't specify.

I used to love Calculus and even decided that I wanted to be a math minor that all changed after I took this class. The content is fine and it's easy to learn, but he is so nit-picky with his grading. He takes points of for the smallest things. I recommend you take Calc with Adams I heard its 10x easier.

Dr. Brown is one of the best professors I've ever had. The only students who struggled were the ones who didn't keep up with the homework. He cares about his students, and he gives 110% of himself to his students. I hope to be 1/2 as a good a teacher as him some day.

Dr. Brown is an excellent teacher. However his tests are EXTREMELY difficult. People had said; and I quite agree that he is just too smart to be a teacher. However, with that being said he is a very personable guy and really funny. I always enjoyed his classes because he has a real brilliant way of making them entertaining and enjoyable.

I am usually amazing in math but his class was the most difficult I ever took in my life. I failed every test he gave except the first one but that was because it was precalculus material, but still did not even get a C. I never study for test for any of my classes and I actually took time to study for his and still failed.

i completely disagree with that statement. dr. brown cares so much about his students and if you ask for help he is MORE than happy to go above and beyond your expectations for professer help. he is extremely hard; his tests are impossible, but he cares for his students and his classes are always great.

Hard material to learn. Nice, quirky teacher to learn it from. Quizzes are short so you better get all the answers right. Tests are difficult. Requires everyday studying. He often calls on students in class so pay attention.
