Old style teaching, do not like to explain calculator. Hilarious in class and present theory well, do not lecture but go over HW questions. Hard if you do not understand finances by yourself

I would not recommend you take this prof for a heavy content course like finance, Im shocked I even passed his course. I had to teach the material to myself. He does not lecture, ONLY takes up homework questions and goes through them so fast you're lost. He will put you on the spot constantly even if he can tell you're uncomfortable with it, awful!

Years back a friend took CFIN 300 with Currie and said he had to hire a tutor to one-on-one help with this course because the professor was next to useless and had a bad attitude. I thought he was exaggerating. Years later, here I am looking for a tutor because the one class of his I went to, he made me cry by putting me on the spot.

I personally hate his teaching style. I also dont like the name tags and no technology in class. Many students have textbooks online and he makes everyone with a computer sit at the front or you have to buy timbits for the class which is very annoying and unnecessary. Most people in the class are adult professionals and shouldnt be belittled.

I think John was a good teacher. This class requires a lot of practice, so make sure you have attempted the homework questions assigned as they will be taken up in class. His exams are fair and are based on the homework questions assigned. Final exam had a few questions from the mock exam he provided. Practice, Practice Practice!! I

John has a great teaching personality and comes to every class with a ton of energy. However, I found his teaching methods ineffective. He doesn't lecture, just goes over the homework that was assigned. He also doesn't teach the calculator which makes for a tough time figuring it out yourself. His tests are pretty fair and I ended with a good mark.

I'm not really for midterm so got lower grades, but when I ready for finally final, I got really high marks. He is super straight forward. You better went to class every time. The question what he explained in class, will also directly show in the test. Actually, I'm going to retake his course to got fine marks in the following semester.

John Currie is definitely one of the worst profs I have ever had. I am surprised he has some good ratings. He does not teach anything. He does not provide any guidelines for tests/exams. If you don't do the homework beforehand he makes you feel like you don't belong in the class. Also, he spits when he talks so don't sit in the front row..

great prof, took finance more than once and by far he was my favorite. He says that we must read the chapter on our own time and then take up the homework during class. He helps understand the material better when we leave than when we come to class. Does not teach you the calculator though and textbook is extremely needed.

John is more like a tutor, NOT a professor. A professors job is to teach and provide resources for students. He does none of that. He doesn't lecture, he doesn't provide notes or power points for students as a guide. His "exam review" is just the title of each chapter in the textbook. He has no regard for other things happening in students lives.

John is an excellent professor. I initially had doubts when he advised that he doesn't lecture, however, I found his method of teaching very effective. Being able to understand how he went about solving a problem (using theory and tricks not provided in the textbook) made even the most complex topic super easy. Make sure to attempt the Homework.

This course cannot be taken easy, but John provides his students the resources necessary to pass. His lectures are funny and he involves the whole class. He is always very well prepared and sincerely wants to get to know his students.

The course itself is hard, but I find John presents it in a great way. TBH i never read the chapters beforehand (and even though he "expects" everyone to, he lectures as if you didn't), and I understood main concepts from the 3 hours of class. Keep up with the labs and homework, and you should be fine. Exam questions are half textbook, half class.

John really knows how to make difficult content easier. This is a really difficult class, but John tries his hardest to simplify. He also really cares about his students. Only complaint: I wish he showed us how to use the calculator.

His style of teaching is the worst way to learn Finance. He thought that we should all read the textbook, to save him from having to lecture. Then, for 3 hours he would take up the questions in the book that no one did because no one understood the chapter just by reading. You're better off taking Finance online or switching profs.

Prof Currie does not lecture during class, however still summarizes concepts. He really focuses on ensuring you understand the concepts (in layman's terms) rather than just plugging brainlessly into a calculator. I do wish he went over how to use the calculator and wasted less time taking up questions. Overall he's good if you put in the effort.
