Comment:

Professor Giertz is a good teacher! He really helps you figure out how to critically think of an argument that has a solid foundation. He challenges you to find other forms of argument to win a debate and takes his time to make sure you fully understand the material that he presents.

Hes monotone and not engaging at all. I dont boubt hes knowledgeable but doesnt translate to teaching very well. Unorganized and not clear on his grading scale, partner debates given different grades. Had higher expectation for this class.

Proffesor Giertz is an expert in his field of study. At times, due dates are unknown. Advise: ask him directly what's due next class, read the book and take notes on bolded key terms, practice your speech with your group outside of class, and relax... everyone is nervous during their first speech and he knows it. He won't penalize you for this.

Comment:

Geirtz is very logical therefore he is very straightforward. His syllabus is slightly difficult to read and sometimes forgets what he's assigned but it's good since you can do the work and it helps to pay attention in class to know what is due next. The outlines are critical! Do those correctly and you'll get a good grade on your speeches.

I would have rather taken this class with another professor. He is very mono-toned and does not take his time to ease into class. Grades are based on, majorly, the debates in class. There are many vocab words to know and are all essential to the debate. Would not recommend this professor to anyone.

Honestly, take this class from another teacher if possible!! After taking 4 other comm. classes from different teachers he is my least favorite. His lectures are boring and most of the time the class doesn't know how to respond to his questions because he is unclear with instructions. He is a tough and unfair grader.

I dont understand why his rate is low, he is a good professor and was always nice and helpful. This was one of the tougher communication classes i took, but an A is possible as long as you work for it. Took the class over summer and it wasnt bad. pay attention in class, study until you know you understand what he expects of you, you'll be fine.

I kinda felt bad for Giertz because no one was there most of the time and he wasn't the clearest in his expectations. He grades the speeches you have to do kinda hard but I think passing is do-able. There are two books needed and you should buy them because he has open quizzes but don't get the access code, you won't use it like he said.

Professor Giertz definitely has his own teaching style in which the student has to get a feel for, but it is effective. If it wasn't, then how would students be able to remain in class after the withdrawal date? Exactly. Giertz excels in the area of logic and reasoning, so students should be prepared to use their brain! Giertz rocks, the end!

He is a fair person and never shows bias. I really appreciate what he taught and will use the skills I learned in his class in my personal life.

He is very pleasant to have as an instructor. Hes very student friendly, down to Earth, and reasonable w grading of students. He simplifies things as much as possible for students, and I have seen him on several occasions, staying after class to help any students that were struggling.

He is so easy going and student friendly so very pleasant to have as an instructor. He explains things to simplify them as much as possible and is very reasonable w his expectations and grading of students! I took him for over this summer and was able to keep up, even w another class that was very stressful!

most of the points come from the trials, congress and policy debates so make sure you show up on those days, theres a few quizzes but they're always multiple choice so if you show up and listen while you text you're golden! he's super nice too if you talk to him outside of class

He is a little disorganized and can be a little confusing at times but will go above and beyond tell who try to clarify it for you if it is actually important to the class. Ultimately he is entertaining if you find his peculiar humor funny.
