Easy class. Although you don't learn how to write for news or media. If you do all the little easy assignments and go to class you'll get an A. He basically tells jokes and reads you current events. Exams are open book. If you want an A take it but if you want to learn don't.

John Hartman is a very wise man who has taught me many valuable things. I think anyone who would like to complain about his cynical criticism is probably an idiot themselves....Hartman says things for comedic effect, and anything he says that's viewed as "offensive"...come on take a pill! I think he's hilarious!

Says things to students that are completely inconsiderate and completely disrespectful. Wish Central knew how he tells his "students" that will not amount to anything on a weekly basis.

I have senioritis, so I dont want to go to any class really. But I've come to enjoy Hartman. Just sit there and listen and do your work. I had him for 202 as well. He grades fairly and hes honest. I dont like his opinions sometimes but its nice to see someone standing up for their point of view. I give him a B+

Hartman is a great professor. His dry humor isn't for everyone, but I think those who get it, really appreciate his wit and personality. I really wish I had him 5 or 10 years ago because I have a feeling he taught more material back then, but you still benefit from his teaching and his many years of JRN experience. He's a great, intelligent prof.

Jack Hartman was the first teacher I had at CMU. He was good at making things clear and helped if you ever had questions. Jack was very good at explaining things, even if it made you feel kind of stupid after. If he ever teaches somewhere else, I hope that they're ready for dry humor and a fun character. Best teacher I've ever had at Central. =]

Hartman likes to appear as a hard-ass but he just wants students to take the profession seriously. Like previous posts, his humor is pretty dry, especially after 4 hours - and he will keep you there the whole time. But otherwise what he has to say is very useful in terms of understanding the profession. Just go to class and do the work.

Okay, I'm pretty sure he's in his last semester at CMU. In that regard, take his class. You don't use the book very much and his exams are open note. He has a very dry sense of humor and most kids don't like him, but I thought he was pretty funny.

Ok, so I do not believe that a journalist should be teaching a PR class and if you take it with him you'll be thinking your wasting your time the whole time, but Hartman is a very intelligent man who knows a lot. Take this class with him as a way to get to know him and an easy A. If you don't believe me then go to The Bird after his night class.

Love him or hate him, you have to admit Hartman is one of a kind. He's pretty intimidating at first, but stick it out, and it'll be worth it. He knows everything there is to know about journalism. As a bonus, he's also hilarious, due to his raw honesty...might want to consider a career in stand-up after CMU.

This guy is hilarious. He doesn't expect you to love him, but the ironic thing is that you probably will anyway simply because he posesses the enviable trait of saying exactly what's on his mind. I really appreciate his humor, and although you won't escape without the occasional boring rant- he will get you thinking and laughing. Thumbs up!

Pretty useless class, but I guess you kind of learn a few things. It's a really easy class, you do your work, you'll get an A. Hartman has a lot of knowledge, but just doesn't seem like his heart is really into teaching anymore. Very egotisical as well, but had a great sense of humor (if you're into dry humor.)

Dr Hartman is CRAZY! learned a lot about writing but he is nothing like you would have here at central. He's intimidating, a hard grader, tests are take home, he's not really clear about things, you do A LOT of homework and he mumbles all the time. Can be funny at times, and he keeps you til the very last minute of class or over. an ok class.

At first I walked into the class and listened to him talk about news and himself and Central and couldn't remember what the hell class I was taking.. We had such a large class that half the assignments we were supposed to have we didn't. He's funny at times. Not too bad. He keeps you the whole 3 hours every time.

The biggest waste of time. He reads the newspaper for the first half of the class then usually puts a movie in the last part. He gives you crap assignments that are useless and dull. It's an easy class but honestly you'll be pissed you have to pay for it.

Well, if you're a first time journalistic writer Hartman's class can be a little intimidating. He definitley tells it like it is and doesn't put up with any crap. Still, he's a nice guy and is reasonable when it comes to deadlines and assignments. The classes themselves are pretty much useless, but don't skip.
