Comment:

One of my favourite profs! Such a broad knowledge, and always willing to go off on an interesting tangent if someone's interested. His random, unexepected, dry jokes are halarious and keep the students awake. I would highly recommend him to everyone, and wish i could get another class with him!

I really enjoyed this course even though Hinde took a little bit of time to get used to. Interesting lectures, dry wit and helpful during office hours.

At first I thought his course was going to be hist 12 all over again, but his course provided more depth. He's kind of boring at the beginning, but if you can understand his humour then you're going to have a good time. I think he's probably one of my best profs, and i get a real kick in the ass after each course cause. Hard, but fair marker.

I had Hinde for two classes during my degree, and I can say that he is a thousand times better in the upper level seminars. He's hilarious in an understated, ironic way. He also assigned really interesting readings - I was a history major, and his was the first seminar I bothered doing the readings for.

He's an okay teacher, not great. He rambles a lot, so it's hard to know what's essential info. and what's not. Very anti-imperialist in general, and not a huge fan of USA. Not much in-class discussion, which was disappointing. Slow with marking - essays weren't marked before exam, so no way to gauge progress.

great prof. better for upper level seminars than lower level lectures. a lot of course readings but they're all engaging and i'm not tempted to sell them back to the bookstore. yes he's cynical, that's just part of his charm. fair marker and he lets you know exactly what he's looking for.

20th c history. A big communist, hilarious, very intelligent. Ask him for help on your paper. Excellent. Ask him about the USA...he rants. I loved this class. TAKE IT and learn about your planet!

His Renaissance Europe class was surprisingly uninformative. After attending all his lectures (which always finished early) I left the course with vague understanding of Renaissance history. Overall, if you are interested in learning about Renaissance Europe, read on your own time, don’t waste 450 dollars on this class.

seems like he's a better prof for upper level courses. he told us he "doesn't like teaching this course," and although he's a seemingly nice man, lectures are dry and redundant. currently making me despise uni-level history. yes, we know you hate the US!

I extremely enjoyed my classes with this prof. His lectures were really interesting and always filled with funny anecdotes. I definitely have retained a lot of information from his class. Big ups to him!

Strange final exam question - it didn't draw on the course lectures and made me feel it was a waste of my time to have gone to the lectures. Didn't give much criticism/advice on essay. The criticism he provided really only dealt with grammar and stylistic issues. Seemed like a nice enough guy, but just didn't want to be there.

Fascinating course with great readings. Hinde's lectures are packed with information. Frequent jokes, rants and tangents.. which helps at 10 am. Gave me high marks on the book reports. I suggest writing down every word he says, I have a feeling he wants it regurgitated on the upcoming final.

"Dr." Hinde is part of the problem of intolerant academia. Dry wit, but excruciatingly left (IE coffee=right-wing conspiracy to suppress our appetites), hypocritical, and fabricates any reason he can to knock marks off any centrist or right-win

This is the most entertaining prof at UVic, bar none. Yes, he mixes in a swear word here and there, but it't the dry, laconic, sarcastic wit that makes it hilarious. Interesting (good) choices sometimes for course readings.

Enormously entertaining and highly educational, but not for anyone who has trouble motivating themselves to work. Very fair marker, and very helpful if you ask. I retained more information from this class than from any other class I've ever taken.

how can anyone not like him, he rocks. So funny, and yes he rants about hating the U.S. Govn't but who doesn't. He is hot in his own special way!!!
