Hinshaw is the absolute worst professor I have had at LVC. I am junior, so that says a lot. He has no criteria or rubrics for any assignments, so he basically pulls grades out of thin air. He makes rude and inappropriate comments, and he isn't helpful during or outside of class. One of the most challenging classes I have taken, and it was a gen ed.

Professor Hinshaw is a very entertaining professor, be ready for him to through in a lot of side stories and jokes into his lectures. The only real problem I had with him was being to understand some of his expectations.

As long as you keep up with the required readings and take notes on everything he says, you will get a good grade. Our class got to use notes on the tests. There was no "real" final exam plus we had an opportunity to write a paper for extra credit.

I loved this class, despite the fact that it was challenging for me. He can go off on tangents, but if you take good notes and sift through them later they can be very helpful. It seems he doesn't always take attendance, it's extremely difficult to keep track of what he teaches without showing up. Hinshaw is hilarious and made a boring subject fun.

Hinshaw was easily the worst professor i had this semester. Unless you had a clear background in history the class was extremely hard to follow and often left me wondering what he was talking about. Class is basically student driven so you arent really being taught anything, just reviewing the reading. Tests are hard and pop quizzes are given often

Hinshaw can be an oddball and outspoken at times; but I feel he is very misunderstood. But with my dealings with him he's been a fair grader and knowlegable about his craft. Very helpful as well.

I had Hinshaw for Intro to American Studies with a focus on the Middle Class. It was super easy, but so boring. He loves it when people participate, and gets pissed when no one does. Taking notes on his lectures is helpful for the exams. But really, make sure you read, because he loves to give reading quizzes.

Very cool teacher puts a different spin on history and uses cool teaching techniques. Quizes are not too bad if you listen in class and do some reading. He helps you out whenever you need it. I've had him for 2 semesters and have had no problems with him.

i had him for american studies- he is very nice and very funny. This class wasnt especially easy- he grades the essays pretty hard and you need to make sure you do all the readings. But its not impossible to get an A.

i had hinshaw for american studies and modern africa. although he's a nice guy, his classes are far too much work for gen eds. there's a lot of reading and writing -- so much that both classes should be writing process. hinshaw is very good at providing multiple perspectives and viewpoints in an unbiased fashion.
