Comment:
Withdrew from his Field Methods course because, while he may be gifted at speaking a multitude of African languages, he loves to hear himself talk. He's a former Peace Corps guy that never left Africa. He's not very good with explaining linguistic phenomena as they relate to the languages. Outside of class he was also quite pompous.

He is very knowledgable about African languages and linguistics but has a diffuclt time imparting this knowledge to his students. I agree that his directions are unclear.

Professor Hutchison obviously is a linguistic genius, however as a professor he is lacking in his ability to correctly assess his students capability. There were three of us in this particular class, and we all had extremely different levels of Hausa yet all received the exact same grade.

Comment:
Hutchison was a biased professor, preferring those students who were interested in Africa in any sort. He would ask students to do research, yet never explain how to do it, becoming enraged when what the students did and what he was expecting conflicted.
