Comment:
He is not a very good professor at all. Often is a few minutes late. Lectures material RIGHT out of the book, to the point where I can sit with the book open in front of me, and follow him line by line. Also, he seems really bored when he teaches, and likes to go off on tangents. His tests are very hard, but some problems come directly from the hw.

Comment:
The most useless math professor (along with Leonard Scott) I've ever had, and I MEAN IT. He is very disorganized and unclear in his lectures, and makes many mistakes which eventually confused the hell out of people. Do not take his class and please avoid this man at all costs.

All in all, not the greatest prof. His proofs are unclear. He'll talk about it and draw pictures until it seems intuitively clear, but he doesn't put the rigorous proof into words. He's a little more helpful in office hours but its pretty obvious teaching isn't his main concern at this point in his career. The book will save you, though.

For the love of god, do not take a class, any class, with Imbrie. Someone told me this before but I thought it wouldn't be that bad...I was wrong. I have taught myself every single thing I've learned in this class. He makes lecture mandatory, but they are completely useless. Just stay away.

This is undoubtably one of the hardestclasses you will take. Both in terms of the amount of work and difficulty of the work. Unfortunately, Imbrie was not a very good teacher, but in his defense, it is a brutal class and teaching it can never be very easy. But he means very well and is very understanding when it comes to curving.

Lectures are not useful in learning material. Explanations are circular - had to rely on the book and classmates to learn almost everything. Do the homework - its graded for completeness AND correctness

Lectures are difficult to get anything out of, but the textbook is great. All homeworks and tests are take-home, so you usually have time to figure out how to solve the problems (tests are usually much easier than the homeworks too, and old solutions come in handy)

He is not an interesting teacher. I felt like I learned more out of the book. Nevertheless, he is fair, tests were take home, and we were allowed to use computer programs to check our answers. Because of this, he graded tough (so make sure you check your answers). Its not the end of the world if you get him as your teacher.
