He taught me algebra in 1969-1970. He was pleasant but always unprepared and made lots of mistakes. He gave bonus questions to help us improve our grades. From the comments I just read, I see he has never improved.

going to class is completely pointless. this professor is very enthusiastic but extremely unclear and disorganzied. it is impossible to follow what he is saying. the material isnt that hard but it its also boring. just read the text and you should be ok. btw i left his class after 2 weeks, went to ivo klemes' section, he is a better and i got a C.

Prof Labute is clear and helpful during his office hours. but it is true that his handwriting is a little messy. he follows the book very strictly, so if you get some help from the book, it will be alright. webwork could be challenging sometimes, use room 911.

Labute is extremely disorganized and it's often difficult to follow his train of thought, however you can tell he is very passionate about what he teaches. Lectures are an interesting phenomenon to witness, but you won't learn much from them. Go to the tutorials and read the textbook beforehand and you should be fine.

Wonderful guy who knows what's he's doing -- he gets so excited, and that's great to see! Sad thing is, though, if you just want to go into class and learn the material, this is not the guy to choose. He's interesting, lively, but usually unclear and disorganised.

this teacher is one of the weirdest creatures in life, he says things that make no sence what so ever, he explains things that are irrelevant if anyone wants to take the course dont do this mistake with him its pretty interesting but he complicates everything to it!!! hes just a walking mess...with no organisation of thought what so ever!

I've seen people struggle in Labute's class and it's not so much that he's a bad teacher, but that those people really shouldn't be in that class at all. He's a great teacher, he shows that there are so many possibilities in math, and he does everything in a very logical progression. People who don't understand him should realize it's not his fault

It's true that stuff looks complicated as hell when Labute explains it. However, he is very nice during office hours; he will answer your questions and his assignments really make you learn and prepare for the tests. People that do very bad in his course probably don't put the sufficient personnal work into it.

I don't know why there are so many complaints about Labute. He is a very good teacher and pretty smart. I do admit that he goes very fast, write things on top of his head that is very impressive and he knows what he is talking about. Outside of class, during his office hours, he was really helpful and gave me hint on how to solve several problems.

He's not that bad. I can understand some of the other's complaints. He does seem a bit flustered and unprepared, and he seems to never have enough time in one class to finish what he began BUT he is very helpfull outside class and his assignments will really make you learn the material.

always comes to class unprepared, just comes to class and starts writing from the top of his head and always makes a lot of mistakes. gives the exact same assignments to his honors class. probably one of the worst teachers i've ever had.

I can't believe that he is still teaching. He was my prof about 35 years ago. I graduated from McGill in '74. He was my Algebra prof in '71. He was also my advisor. Amazing how teaching styles don't change. He was not good then. How do these people keep their jobb?

He just can't communicate ANYTHING- even when he tries. And there's no text. He won't even RECOMEND a text. He just can't teach. Not in lecture, not one-on-one, never. Avoid him if you can- if not, get a good tutor.

Doesn't bother to prepare lectures, totally unclear & confusing unless you already know everything he's teaching. If you want to learn anything (or pass), beg for a T.A. until you get one and attend all tutorials. Go to class, but don't count on Labute.
