The bad reviews about McEvoy are a perfect illustration of everything that this wrong with this website. I can say hands down that McEvoy prepared me for legal practice better than any other prof at UNB. His class isn't easy, and he is quite demanding but guess what, being a lawyer aint easy. I wish I had the opportunity to take more courses w/ him

This guy is pedantic, incoherent, and generally unhelpful. Expects you to memorize the textbook and tests on irrelevant details. Asks for direct quotes from cases on closed-book tests. Come to class or don't; it doesn't matter. On the bright side, everyone's grades are awful in his first year class, so the curve will save you.

one of the most passionate and well-spoken professors that I have ever had. he genuinely cares about his students and goes the extra mile each and every class to ensure that what he teaches is current and relevant to both academically interested and practice-oriented students. wish i had more time to take another course with him

He obviously loves constitutional law. He's not an easy prof, but his enthusiasm makes you want to learn. Also, if you fall behind, he will MAKE you come see him in his office. Although intimidating at first, he is a super nice guy and he really wants you to learn the law. Great class.

It bothers me to see negative reviews for McEvoy. He's the best professor at UNB - by far. He is incredibly knowledgable and he truly cares about student progress. This, however, requires at least some effort on the part of the student. Don't listen to the negative hype. If you have a chance to take him, don't pass it up.

Brilliant man, helpful outside of class. Tests are mostly minutae and trivial facts, and closed book. Optional assignments are "optional," and you only find out at the end of the year.

He may be brilliant, but he is also cruel and arrogant. He has no read interest in education or student success, but basks in the suffering and repetitive failure of his students on his ridiculously detailed tests. Also, a syllabus that accurately reflects the final grade calculation would be nice. He will do all he can to screw you. Stay away.

Smart man, but infuriating. Obsessed with detail, which is ridiculous as all of his exams are closed book. My friends and I referred to him as "McPatronizing" all term. Outside the class, however, he can be genuine and approachable and really helpful. Do NOT write "PIECE of legislation" on his exam - you will lose all your marks for that question.

This is a hard class, but you expect that in law school. McEvoy knows his stuff and makes the subject matter interesting. One of the best profs here.

Why does he have to make everything so confusing? Even his sylabus is confusing. His tests are all about semantics and obscure points. He is obsessed with minutiae.

Comment:
Fantastic for Constitutional, so-so for Conflicts (probably due to the subject matter). I was confused for most of Conflicts because he went so fast (& I didn't keep up with my readings). He was great in Constitutional though, and really knows his stuff. Brings lots of visual aids and is a good lecturer. A fair marker. One of UNB Law's best.

He hasn't got a clue. Upper year students demonstrate more comprehension of the law than he does. The weakest link in a weak faculty.

A hard subject matter to begin with, and he never really gets to the point. I often find myself wishing I had a blunt object to poke myself in the eye with.

He knows his stuff, a little too well, his face explodes in every lecture with everything in his brain and it's hard to keep up with him. He can fit so much stuff into a lecture it's daunting. Not overly helpful, either, unless he likes you.

McEvoy loves the law. Now if only he can actually relate to those who aren't as crazy about it as he is. He can be difficult with some subject matter and his quizzes can be very frustrating. He cares. Now if only he'd actually do SOMETHING about it.
