Lectures are interesting but can become a bit dry sometimes as he often goes over a topic multiple times. Lots of reading and writing but you will learn a lot.

Amazing professor! Never thought I would love early British Literature so much, but John's classes were so engaging I fell in love with every author. Best professor I've had so far!

It's a big class, however, with flexible deadlines paired with fascinating lectures, Miller is by far the best professor I have had at Concordia.

a very kind man yet the class was not very interesting to me and lectures seemed to be repetitive, but it is an intro class so might be expected...

Browsing the internet out of curiousity a full 20 years after graduating with an Honours BA in English. I took every course John taught (5 at the time: Romantics, Victorians, and Short fiction). Remember it like it was yesterday. Nice to know that John Miller is STILL the BEST.

John is the best English teacher I have had at Concordia (and I've had a few). Though the reading load was very heavy, his lectures made even the boring books come alive. I would take John Miller even it was a class on types of floorboards, because he would make it interesting. DO NOT GRADUATE WITHOUT TAKING A COURSE WITH HIM!!

Dr. Miller is a rare gem. Not only does he know his stuff, he also knows how to effectively run a lecture and discussion; everything gets covered and everyone has a chance to participate. A very fair marker. His final for this particular class was quite difficult, though. I still came out of the course with an A.

One of the very best. One of the rare university prof's truly dedicated to the craft of teaching. His class is structured and clear, covers an amazing amount of material yet still manages to work in discussion.. Take Victorian Lit with him, regardless of whether or not you love the victorians or not, the experience will be worth it.

Easily the best teacher I've ever had. Although he is incredibly smart, and could easily lecture for the whole class time, John encourages discussion. He is respectful of other people's opinions and really tries to get students to flex their intellectual muscles rather than just having us repeat the same dusty theories we've all read in books.
