If you miss a homework assignment, instead of getting 0 points, you get negative points, even if you have a medical excuse for missing. Tests are part multiple choice and part free response. The multiple choice section is very unforgiving about tiny arithmetic errors. Test will occasionally cover topics not on the homework. Nice guy, poor teacher.

Great professor! Class is definitely tough but if you go and pay attention then the only thing that will stop you from learning is yourself. Test weren't unreasonable but be sure to study for them. Really helps out in lab and lectures are long but he throws in a joke every once in a while for good fun. Wrote all the textbook and assignments himself

Loved this class. You learn a lot by doing the online and written homework. Take advantage of the TA office hours! They're extremely helpful. I also found watching Stewart's lectures online beneficial because you can pause them and take notes as you go along.

First of all UPII is not as hard as people tell you it is. UPII is an extremely hard subject to teach and taking that into consideration, Dr. Stewart does a good job. The online homework is sometimes over material not covered and the written homeworks are time consuming, but office hours always helps. Dr. Stewart posts material online, which helps!

One of the smarts people at the university. Class moves pretty fast and a lot of material is covered, but if you do your homeworks and practice tests you should make an A.

Probably the most knowledgeable phys prof I have had. If you pay attention in class, do the homework, and study, the tests are an easy A-B. Was a bit surprised at how many kids felt the course was tough because as long as you do the reading and work it's fairly easy. There are also easy bonus points that are available. Ended up with a very high A.

The homework is not hard if you attend lecture and go to labs. He works out examples on the board and is available through office hours. If you don't read the material and don't actively participate in the class or engage in the learning process, obviously the class will be somewhat difficult. Don't expect an A if you're not going to work for it.

Good professor. Read. Read. Read. PhysII has a lot of outside of class workload but as long as you keep up, his class won't be very difficult.

Although his lectures may seem like they are in Japanese (because the material is very unfamiliar not because he has an accent) and you write a TON OF NOTES, he is extremely helpful in assisting you in understanding the material to the fullest. Homework and tests aren't terrible and because of a LOT of grades, you can make up a bad grade easily.

He comes off as sort of a mad scientist at first. He has a pretty quirky sense of humor, though not in the bad way. He teaches classes coherently, making large classes seem smaller. I haven't taken any upper level courses yet, so I don't know how well he teaches those, but this guy is one of the better professors I have had.

Dr. Stewart is awesome. I had trouble in his class b/c I don't read the book enough, the lecture goes too fast, but he is the most helpful man I have met. Worth taking, just seat at the front to keep a focus and don't get behind in the readings. He really cares about his students.

Awesome professor. Definitely one of the best classes that I have taken at the U of A. You have to be willing to work hard, but there is a lot of room for error and an A is easily doable.

Very helpful teacher. Class is a must due to quizzes everyday. He uses his own book and assigns homework due every class. As long as you keep up this class isn't too bad. His tests are pretty rough so know you stuff. I hear the final is a bear so try to get enough points so you don't have to take it.

Awesome teacher. Not real clear lectures in class BUT he wants you to succeed. Go to office hours and your HW grade will be an A. Tests are hard but there are enough grades from the rest of the class (gimme points) that you can make the grade you want. Most students don't take the final their grades are so high. Take Honors UPII if possible.

This class was required for my major and i really had no interest in it. i suppose if you like to study it wouldn't be that bad but i don't and i struggled to get a B. Class is a snooze but his quizes kinda make it required. If you can, i highly recommend taking it over the summer at some other school. taught much better than Gay and physics one.

Liked him better than his wife. The coursebook is awesome if you take the time to read it. Read the chapter(s) before lecture and you can simply annotate what you've already read as he lectures; he follows the book format extremely closely. If you're the sort of person willing to put time into studying, then you'll make an A. There's no trickery.

Super nice guy in and out of class. Grading system is extremely fair. If you go to class and study before exams this class will be no problem. Homeworks seem rough at first, but after a week or two they're a breeze. Definitely recommend him.

The class was not easy, but that is mostly par for physics courses. Dr. Stewart does a very good job of explaining the difficult material clearly. He is readily accessible and is willing to spend time to ensure understanding of the material. I recommend his classes.

The worst teacher i have ever had. Makes me ashamed to go to this university. what a pathetic excuse he is for anything. he wrote the book and thus, there is no other resource. the homework is ridiculously long and he doesnt check it, but demands you check it for him. he talks to himself... jokes with himself. has the smallest handwriting.

Class is fairly challenging if you've don't have a physics background, but he does very well to prepare you. Homework is a must do. It probably takes about 2 hours a lecture to read and do the homework, but doing it and understanding it prepares you very well for the class. He has a geeky humor that is fairly entertaining. Take him. Great teacher.
