He is a nice guy and clearly knowledgeable about international politics. His powerpoints aren't the best but the information is there. Gave lots of reminders and tips for assignments. Bumped up my midterm and final grade several points when the TA was a hard marker. Explains laws very well if you're into that.

I am yet to take his class, but he is the department head and he will not accept directed readings for Senior Level, and ensure enough political science courses are offered for lecture based, distance ed every semester. I live outside the country and there are no distance ed courses being offered for the next two semesters 2014-15.

Not boring if you actually pay attention. If you go to class, pay attention and take notes you will do fine. You can get the basic ideas of the course just from the lecture but reading the textbook gives you the detail needed to do well. Marks papers like anyone else in the department. If you know how to write a paper in poli sci you will do ok.

Wasn't sure Europe could be presented in such a boring manner. I personally hated the exams, low number of questions but covered obscure topics. Marked with a iron fist! Still respect him however.

GO TO LECTURES. He doesn't put his slides on the internet so taking notes in class is a must. Also, doesn't really use the book very much so you can't just read the book and be ready for his tests.

Nice guy to talk to, but I could not stand his class. I think I actually fell asleep a couple times. The courseware was ridiculous, just as monotonous as he was. Difficult marker also. Be prepared if you take a class with him, it's not a class you can afford to fall behind in.

I'm a Poli Sci grad and I have to say that I took every course that "Sutty" taught (as we liked to call him)...he's a plain prof, great sense of dry humour, and a fair grader, but you must do your work...if you slack off and dont attend regularly and do all your readings, you'll never enjoy him

If you want to do good, make sure you read every word in the reading material and attend every single class and take good notes. Otherwise, you will not do well. The topics that he covers r fund but the material is really dry and no use for future.

His lecutres aren't the most exhilirating. So, if you have him for an early morning class buy a fat cup of coffee. Otherwise, you get what you need from his classes, and tests are very straightforward with no tricks. He's got a great sense of humour, but it's very dry. His teaching style is not flashy, but he's very effective.
