One of the worst teachers I have ever met in my life time. On lab test day I was sick, met him and talk to him. But refused to give an exception. For some reason he hates students. I learn everything he taught by self learning. Boring teaching methods. Do not need his class to learn C# at all. Please be kind to students.

Took his Windows XP class in First semester. Very frustrating guy to work with. On our final exam, he gave us a scripting question worth 40% of our mark, had half a class on scripting the whole semester.

I don't think tough professor is a bad thing for student. But his problem is you never know his marking standard before you submit your work. That will cause you spend whole week to do something which he don't care and lose huge portion of marks for some little areas that he focus on. And not matter the reasons, he never give you second chance.

I don't believe John's testing abilities reflect the course outline. I'n an introductory course for C# we were given a lab test to error detect his coding. First problem with that it we've never done, not even as an example. I have spoken with other staff and they also agree that he should not be using this style of testing and that it isn't accur

Comment:
Tests do not separate actual C# skills from debugging skills. Many students have limited work experience where they fix another's broken code. Therefore grades do not actually reflect the GUI-building skills the course is supposed to evaluate. A student could have done badly on his midterms as any other test in another programming language.

Comment:
There's a difference between high standards and inconsistent teaching. He teaches sparsely, then relies on student questions to fill in the gaps. Then he responds to each student differently. This may create a hostile learning environment for some. Who he is depends on who you are. We're supposed to be in an equitable society.

I'm an older student so I've seen all kinds. John seems tough because he dosen't want you to get an A, he wants you to learn the material. He'll destroy you if you are a slacker but he will praise you for clear thinking. Despite the low marks he gets on this site our education system needs more John Tappins. Keep up the good fight John!

John's Not a bad teacher, a little unclear about his tests, tells us to study one thing and the test is on something different. Other than that nice guy if u actually show up to class and not disturb him

No doubt- John Tappin is not the easiest on the go professor. But this is the way the teacher should be! Strong, no execuses about assignments, knows stuff he teaches just execellent! What do you actually expect from the teacher, mates? Credits? Kisses and hugs?P.S. You never find professor whos explains material so clear.

Mr. Tappin is usually very good at clearly speaking. I found him to be a very hard teacher though. I have taken 4 classes with him and failed EVERY one. I have taken the same classes with other teachers. Lowest mark with nayone else was 76%. During a test review period, we asked him what to study. "Whatever is relevent. Review is over."

Though he can seem a bit confrontational at times and definately has no patience for people who are there to "slack" their way through the course. But if you are there to learn and show it ...you learn. I can guarentee I learned more from this class than I did with the "laid back" professors. even if it was a little stressful at times

One of the worst teachers I've had at the college (and I've had some BAD teachers). Lectures and Labs don't always have anything in common. It feels like he wants his students to fail (by the way he doesn't tell us exactly what he wants in an assignment for example). And also how he makes his tests ridiculously hard (class avg is around D)

Whenever he signs you out of a lab, he asks you trivial questions. This really discourage students who are slow learners. Also, his lectures are more theory, and what we learn through lectures are not always what we do in labs.
