Comment:

Mr Thoo is an amazing professor. He is very enthusiastic to teach and for students to learn. Always is available outside of class. If you are not the type to read on your own and put in a lot of work, this professor isn't for you. His standards are high and his class prepared me for more difficult math as well as all other college level courses.

Comment:

He teaches at a level above the class, and does his best to prepare you for the uppper level math classes. I did not pass but it wasn't because of him (I was partially at fault), but I would take him again. His class is fun, he teaches well, never in a hurry but expects that you read the material and know it regardless of whether he covered it.

You have to pay attention in class, you can get by without reading but you won't do great. He ALWAYS has office hours you can use and will make time if they don't fit your schedule. He teaches fast but will slow down and answer any questions if asked. Tests are hard but reasonable. I used to hate math but now I love it. Would definitely take again.

Tests do not correlate with what he teaches. Unnecessarily difficult, teaching style is confusing, and even if you manage to follow what he's saying (you probably won't) it won't matter as the test will be harder than it needs to be. Will leave you feeling like you've wasted the last 5 months of your life. Just take math with a different professor.

Prof. Thoo, though a truly nice man, has a teaching style that I couldn't follow at all. He goes very fast and, unfortunately, he allows the smarter students to "lead the lecture". The rest of us were left behind. If I asked him to explain, I got the feeling that I was just slowing down the class.

Prof. Thoo is a great teacher, but his lectures do not correlate with what he tests you on. Given the short time limit, you're set to answer questions that require "outside the box" thinking. While they're still relevant to the chapter, it's not what was taught on the board. He's a very difficult teacher with not much room for error.

The professor I had chosen for Math 20 mysteriously disappeared and Mr. Thoo took on his classes. Now, I have major respect for Mr. Thoo since he took on extra work but I don't get his teaching style at all. The stuff you are lectured on and do homework on isn't even on the tests and they are super hard. Would not recommend for higher level math.

A really good guy, very funny, BUT I could not understand his teaching style at all and neither did half of the class. All but two or three students failed the first test and the second one didn't look much better, most people dropped after that. Steer clear of this one, unless you have a serious passion for math.

Don't take a class with Thoo unless you want a serious challenge. Tests are unreasonably difficult. Only take the class if you are a very serious and motivated math student. You'll learn a lot if you are. Still, don't expect to easily pass.

Thoo is a tough, but fair math teacher. I would definitely say he is the most enthusiastic Math teacher I ever had which helps, energy in a math lecture can go a long way. His test can be tough and he does not hand hold but is willing to explain further if you ask for help. DO NOT skip out on homework or test if you take his class though.

Prof. Thoo is a good teacher, but his tests are tough. He teaches the material a little different from the book at times, but the Math Cafe is a good source for help and questions. In our class, he didn't grade on a curve, but he did drop our worst test score at the end of the semester. He does like to help his students, and provides study groups.

Overall he is a very fair teacher. He explains things well, but you have to be paying attention to fully understand the lecture. His tests are hard, and they include problems that weren't taught in lecture (you have to actually READ the chapters as you go along.) if you skip a class, you especially better read that chapter and do the homework.

Hardest class I have ever taken. Lots of homework! Great instructor. Very helpful and friendly. You don't have any other choice for Math 9, its only offered in the Spring at 8am. That was difficult.

Okay, first off he is not easy, but he gives sooo much extra credit that it will buff out! If you go to him, he will help in anyway he can. This was my second time taking him, and passed every time.

I took math 50 with a different teacher and got the highest grade in the class. I had to take his class online and it was horrible. He didn't address the online students and he hardly returned my emails. I was left in the dark all semester. Poor communication. I wouldn't recommend him online. My grade was 90% based on test that are impossibly hard.
