Harsh crits if you need it, will praise good work when he sees it, fair grader, wants to help you as much as he can. Didn't like him at first, loved him after 2nd crit. Really pushed me to do my best.

Don't take his classes if you're not serious about photography. If he feels you take your work seriously and that you put effort into it then he'll be very encouraging and help you and give you tips. He can be hard sometimes but only when people deserve it.

I find that when I'm happy with my work, he is happy with it too and when I think it's crap, he does also. He pushes you to work REALLY HARD. Do not take his classes unless you are totally committed and serious about pursuing photography.

Jon is one of the best professors I have ever encountered throughout my post secondary education. He is super-tough so i can see why a lot of people give up in his classes. He's up front, totally honest, no b.s., and as an aspiring artist I appreciated that!

Has problems with conducting himself professionally. Not a very good artist, and thus does not exactly give helpful critiques. He picks on meaningless factors of a piece and his input is not very critical on the hard task of making art. Avoid him.

Baturin plays favourites but at the same time tries to provoke students into working HARDER. He seems to deliberately make people angry so that they will try harder in class. As a prof he is very uninspiring. People NOT up to a challenge should avoid him.
