Comment:

Henry has a talent for making students underperform. He will refuse to help you even if you are confused and struggling, because it is"unfair for other students he is not helping". Grading scheme is murky to say the least. To whoever reading this: you're in luck. Don't make the same mistake as me; avoid him at all costs.

This was an amazing experience. Clearly, Dr. Jon loves himself more than his students, with the exception of one pretty girl, who he drooled over. Creep!

My first exposure to a University-level English course, I took the English assessment prior and I did quite well. In this class, I was highly unsuccessful. Unfortunately, although his lecture content can be interesting, he spends most of the lecture off topic and he is an extremely hard marker with very little room to improve throughout the term.

Seems to grade assignments while comparing them to published works. Therefore, if your assignment is not worthy of being published, you will not receive an A. Quite unfair considering this is a first year English course.. doesn't make sense.

Worst teacher ever! I don't recommend him at all, he was a tough grader, his essay topics did not make sense, and his lectures were so boring. Don't take him if you want to receive a good grade.

Worst prof ever... He was so hard to get in touch with outside of class time (claims he doesn't know how to use the internet) his notes are super random and don't go with his lecture at all. His lectures are very dry and don't try to leave the class at any time because he will call you out on it.

JP spends 90% of the mandatory lectures off topic and forgets to tell you things, shows up next lecture surprised you have no idea what he is talking about. He assigns things randomly, with little explanation and marks hard. He left 2 essays and four other written assignments until the 2nd last class (totalling over 2500 words). Do not recommend.

The most disorganized, disrespectful professor. Late for every class, can't keep track of when assignments are due, almost all assignments are due in the last 2 weeks of class. Seems to hate teaching, thinks he is better than students, and uses his lectures to insult people and name drop. Save yourself the headache, don't take his classes.

If you didn't look this up before hitting, 'register'-, maybe it's not too late to find another class, bite the torpedo that is headed your way. At the end of the day, if you can look past his shortcomings as a sociable individual, you will find amazing content in his lectures (may not be course related), and he is not that bad of a guy. 'Drop'.

Don't take any class by Jon Paul unless you have a masochistic desire to endure misery for four months. His lectures are achingly long and it's difficult to figure out what's worth writing down. He clearly resents teaching and doesn't care about the students at all (he went the whole semester without bothering to learn most of our names). Horrible.

This professor does not in any way teach you how to write at the university level, which is the entire purpose of the course. Instead he likes to have pointless discussions, and then give us large and intimidating assignments without actually teaching us on how to do them. Jon has completely skipped the point of this class. Absolutely horrible.

Difficult to pass this course as he is very vague about assignments as well as has a lot of long papers. Attendance is a must, otherwise you will miss a bunch of material the next assignment is based on.

Jon is a very tough marker and believes that you only deserve an A if your work is worthy of being published. On average, about 4 people got a B for each assignmenttest, no one got higher. If you have a simplistic writing style, he says it is too "journalistic" and takes marks off. His essay questions are hidden within a 4 paragraph asgnt. sheet.

I think people are being harsh. He isn't so bad. Nice guy. Funny. Intelligent. He rambles on a bit, but his stories are usually interesting. He encourages class participation during lecture, so that helps break up the monotony. He is a very tough essay marker (I am usually an A+ writer and he gave me a B+ on one) but offers lots of help in class.

Expectations were way too high for a 1st yr course, the teacher noted in his life of teaching he has only handed out a handful of A's because he believes in order to receive an A your work must be publishable. I was pleasantly surprised, after reading all the comments prior to my semester with him, I thought this would be the worst class. I found him hilarious, intelligent and clear about his expectations. You'll need to do the work, come to class and put in effort to get a good grade. He's not as bad as students say.
