Amazing lecturer, the dude is truly gifted. His class is the only B I got as an undergraduate, and I totally expected it. He grades papers hard but you'll learn so much about Shakespeare. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Candido's animated lecture style is what makes his class worth taking. I'm taking it in summer because I thought it would be good to get a dense class like this out of the way, but now I wish I could have taken it in a regular semester because he is such a great teacher. He digs into the text in interesting ways that students can relate to.

Just as you return from a heavy reading load and feeling down he will cheer you up with his amazing sense of humor! He will take texts that you may find boring and create ties to everyday life to make them more relatable. Make sure you pay attention to the small things because they do matter. His tests are VERY challenging and be sure to show up.

Though Shakespeare is not always interesting, Candido is pretty interesting most of the time. If you make a conscious decision to pay attention and enjoy class, you probably will. Candido wants to give you an A if you show up. Read the plays twice like he says; they're much easier to read the second time around.

Candido can be a bit too limited in his thematic approaches to Shakespeare, generally focusing on a narrow range of interpretations and motifs throughout his plays. That said, the course is taught quite well, he is always clear and engaging, and he is generally interested in his subject. Best of all, he doesn't let students speak, which is great!

Dr. Candido is a good teacher, but his class is not easy. If you do not read, it will be impossible. Pay close attention to details, themes and all terms he mentions in class... they'll all be on the test. Also, as far as tests go, prepare for the final, b/c its harder than the other two. Candido's class is quite fun, but be prepared to work.
