Comment:
Professor Plante is an awesome lecture and he is always there for students who need help. The material isn't as intuitive as other 500 level math courses. But he made it interesting and accessible. His office hour is extremely helpful. Tests have obvious difficulty level up. Some are straightforward, but you need to read the textbook and ask ques.

He is a pretty good professor. He likes to be goofy in class and make math jokes. He really encourages that people ask questions and he is really helpful during his office hours. If you do the homework, you'll do fine on his tests but he does like to throw in some theoretical/proof problems in as well. Overall, best math professor I've had yet.

At first he seemed unapproachable, but in office hours he is very funny and helpful. Tests are almost all from homework problems.

I didn't think Dr. Plante was a particularly good teacher. He was pretty bad at fielding questions (he nearly always made the students feel awkward and ill at ease - I know I didn't particularly want to ask him anything). Topology is a fantastic field but I wasn't entranced into it by his teaching.

He is very fair on the amount of homework and his test questions are usually things that he's either explicitly talked about in class or are homework questions with the numbers changed. Takes you through everything you need to know, and he's almost always available to answer questions.

He is a good professor. He explains things well and attempts to make his lectures entertaining, though sometimes you don't catch his jokes. Things to remember: 1. Know proofs (he likes to throw them in on tests) 2. Show up to EVERY class (he gave surprise extra credit points)

Professor Plante would be a great instructor if he didn't make such an effort to be needlessly intimidating to people who don't understand. He knows his stuff and can keep people awake most of the time but is very bad at taking questions.

Excellent math teacher. Was able to explain a difficult concept of Topology to someone who has not had formal analysis before. Definately recommend this professor for any class. Also tells the driest jokes ever during lecture. Stops, turns around and waits for applause :). Very good experience.

His descriptive style makes the clas easier. This Professor, can see the class from the "troubled" students point of view and not the math wiz point of view. He can explain anything three different ways and can read a student better than most.
