Do yourself a favour and don't. You won't really learn anything. Every class is trivia time and he is very disorganized. You will be challenged, but that is because he does not teach you anything and you are pretty much left on your own. So much reading. Then he's also lazy and makes you watch the movie version as well.

He can be a funny, entertaining teacher if you're on top of things. The class was really easy and the explanations were great. My only caution is that the prereq for this class was too low, and there were several people in the class who clearly scraped their way past 200 level and were not prepared to take a course at this level.

Very unorganized. He doesn't respect and treat the students equally, and wasn't very helpful even when we e-mail him for help. He doesn't prepare his materials beforehand, and often dismiss class 15+ mins early because he doesn't have his materials ready. I regret so much taking his class.

BEST PROF I'VE EVER HAD. Period. He is the most knowledgeable prof I've met and is very approachable. He is incredibly witty and I laughed constantly through his classes. Incredibly helpful with the papers and I've never respected a prof's advice on how to improve my writing more than this man. Do yourself a favour and take his classes.

One of my favorite profs. He's quite funny and is very knowledgeable. Can seem intimidating, but is helpful and approachable during office hours. Generous marker. Qs due each class, 2 sets of Qs you create yourself and submit to him and a final paper. Lots of reading but it's a lit class so it's to be expected. I would definitely take him again.

Fantastic Prof. Lectures make me want to stand up and clap. Lots of freedom when it comes to paper topics and yes, there is alot of reading and homework, BUT it is assigned in a manner that truly facilitates education. Bravo!

The text was really, really bad..I had to do a lot of studying on my own for this class. But once you get it, it should be a breeze. He lets you bring cheat notes to the exams which was really nice of him:) He appeared strict in the beginning but he was likable once you get to know him. Has homework for each class so be prepared!

He may go off track sometimes, but a lot of it had to do with the questions that some people ask which throw him off track because he likes to explain everything. He's a really easy marker, though. Bad thing was..lots and lots and LOTS of reading.

How can a course on Edo-era sex be difficult? I found the course load too much - lots of reading and writing answers twice a week. Mostow's a good guy, but sometimes his intellect intimidates. Also, he can be all over the place and lacking focus. Overall, the toughest course I took this term, but I learned a lot.
