Comment:

She's very nice and is an easy grader. Group projects and speeches are all very easy and relaxed. However, the exams are insanely difficult because you learn none of it from the class and have to search the book for the answers during the test (open book midterms). The final was NOT open book, and was what dropped many people's grades.

Comment:

Like many other reviewers has said, the speeches are easy, I got full marks on all my speeches, BUT, and this is a big BUT: the tests are impossible. It's not impossible in a sense where it's hard, it's impossible because she never teaches you anything on the test. Even if you read, the questions are random and tricky from a test bank.

This instructor is very nice and helpful. She is not specific in things when it comes to a speech. The only thing I dislike is she grades based upon the peer review; uses the peer review feedbacks which you never know if the reviewer is nice, anal, or do not know how to grade on a person's speech. Overall, this class is easy.

Joyce is a sweet & kind lady. She is an easy grader on speeches & participation. Class is a bit dry. Quizzes are a bit challenging even when they are open book & all quizzes are based off the textbook. 3 individual speeches, 1 group, 2 quizzes, & 1 final. Overall, easy class

Great Teacher and fun class. 3 Tests only. First 2 open book, Final closed book on 3 chapters. You will give 3 individual speeches and one group. Easy Class. A++++ for Ms. Gray. I wish all teachers are like her! She is really helpful teacher. You will learn a lot.

Took summer session, had 3 speeches + a group presentation. You can speak on almost anything if it fits the type(inform/persuade). 3 multiple choice tests, 2 are open book/notes. Tests have some bad questions on minor things from the book. Gray is friendly and helpful but doesn't always go into detail, and lectures can go fast so you want the book.

Ridiculously hard speech 10 class compared to speech 10 classes taught by other professors. Numerous midterms on top of the final. Questions on midterms are fairly difficult and tricky. Class is also very boring.

Speech 10 is known to be a very easy speech class but definitely not the case with her speech 10 class. Aside from all the group projects that we have to do, there are 4 individual speeches, and 3 midterms aside from the final. If someone tries really hard, they may just end up with only a "B" at best.

Nice lady, but teaches nothing. Students teach students with powrpoints she provided. She has an attendance sheet. Quizes are open book, but they still are tricky. Final is closed book and it is terrible. It's not an easy A because the quizes can trip you up and group speeches might harm you if your group is bad.

She's a really nice lady, but she doesnt really teach. She puts you in groups and you guys teach a chapter. I feel like I've learned more from my classmates than her. Her speeches are easy you can basically BS the whole thing. Her tests are decent, open book, but I recommend reading the chapters before the test. Wanted to learn something but easy A

She's a very charismatic instructor, with great clarity. Encouraging- not patronizing. I'd dreaded this Gen Ed & lamented the expense of taking it, but thanks to Ms. Gray, I developed previously unrefined skills & heartily enjoyed the lessons & in-class interactions. NB: You must inquire after her grades/reviews in order to acquire them.

It's a pretty easy class, she's clear on what she wants, and is nice. However she doesn't really enforce classroom rules, so the student side-chatter gets pretty annoying. Simply put the class is dead, I would've taken a different, more lively instructor if I had the chance.

She's one of the nicest teachers that I've ever had. Her class was pretty tough actually. There were 3-4 speeches and the midterms were hard because she's very brief in the lecture. However, it's open book, but make sure you scan through it before hand so you're not lost looking for answers. Just get high marks on your speeches and you'll be fine!

She was very nice, the 3 speeches were fairly easy, i got 97's in all speeches, but i got a B in the class because the tests were ridiculously hard! even with open book, impossible to find answers, easy class other then that. She doesnt really teach anything

super nice lady! Absolutly DE ANZA'S BEST PROFESSOR. I took her Speech 10 class at winter quarter 2011.Basically I m not interested in speech, just take it for GE.THAT'S EASY A:open book quiz,1 group speech,2 individual speech.I got low score on the first speech & I tell her i want to do make-up, she agreed and regraded me very high! Just take her!

Such a nice lady. She is fair and lets you make up speeches which is totally crazy but she does. She also doesn't like lecturing so she uses power points and is very brief. Tests are open book but are still a little tough if you didn't read or scan the chapters. Definitely willing to take another Speech class if I need too
