I absolutely LOVED this prof. She had amazing lectures that gave very specific detail as to what was important and what wasn't important. There's no final exam. She gives around 5 tests for the entire course, and gives you a study sheet that gives good detail about what to study for the tests (very straightforward) you need to study for tests.

My favourite prof. Boosted mark if you participate in class which I found was very easy to do as she makes the lectures so interesting and hard not to voice your opinion! The textbooks you don't have to read. She is a tough grader at some points but she gives very useful feedback. As long as you show up and be involved you'll get an easy A.

I liked Dr. Jenkins! She was a very fair marker, and you could tell she really enjoys her job! Great course for first year, as there is next to no outside effort required. Word of advice: If you don't understand the text, don't worry because she clarifies. ALSO, participate in in-class discussion, as that will boost your grade!

It is apparent that she loves philosophy as well as enjoys teaching it. Encourages active learning in class discussions. Her lectures clarify the required readings and in fact teach how to approach and interpret philosophical texts. Great course for first year.

buying any of the textbooks are useless. I did not read a single page out of any book just went to class and made notes. extremely intimidating and not easy to approach, kind of rude.

I took a bunch of her courses. Her essay method teaches mad analytic skills. It is the closest thing to practical training you'll get from a philosophy department. Thank you Joyce (and Rob) for helping me get promoted in the federal public service.

This was my fav class all year! prof has a great sense of humour, all topics covered were very interesting, i looked forward to going to class. First topic with symbolic logic was difficult but after that it got easier. She always sought our opinions and did not simply lecture but stimulated class discussion. Great prof!

I also took contemporary political philosophy and agree with the below poster. Would like to add that tests/assignments were unfairly weighted. 40% for a 2-page essay?!

I took contemporary political philosophy and the class was uselss. I swear she has absolutely no lessons planned out, and just lets the class talk for 50 min. She doesnt explain arguments very well, and the class does not facilitate note taking. So when tests come, good luck. I love politics and philosophy, and this class was terrible at best.

awesome prof, by far the best of my first year. I haven't had to do any of the readings, as long as you show up to class she writes all the notes you'll need on the board. Very funny and keeps class interesting. The logic section of the course was soooo boring and I felt like I was in a foreign country at times but still got A's on that section.

Great prof, very entertaining lecturer. This class is very discussion oriented and Prof. Jenkins keeps it interesting, and this is coming from a compulsive clock watcher. If you go to class and take good notes, tests are not too big a deal, although she is a fairly hard marker. Not insanely so, but it is worth considering.

The examples are humorous but get their point across. I enjoy the stories of her own life in relation to philosophy... the "smoothy" of philosophy and the evil christmas stories are great.
