Outdated and rude. She has no concept of teaching, she does not care about her students, she rants about how terrible our generation is, she genuinely seems miserable every time you approach her with a question, she rolls her eyes and huffs and puffs as if she's bending over backwards to answer a simple question. I would never recommend her. EVER.

Horrible. She is rude and condescending. She expects way too much from people and if you ask her a question she decides if its "smart enough" to answer. She indirectly called me stupid when I ask her to clarify a question. Do not take a course with this professor

Seeks a more penetrating less literal interpretation of the primary sources that you are dealing with. Accordingly multiple readings of the texts are necessary otherwise what will seem like common sense to her will be other worldly for students to grasp. Not an easy professor to write for, but ultimately provides a more meaningful and rewarding exp

I've heard she's better when it's a higher level course but with first years, she's pretty bad. Mumbles, reads off the PowerPoint and has a habit of overloading her lectures to the point where she skips through slides. Not the politest to her class and opinionated.

Terrible person, very rude and never helpful, she does have times when her lectures make sense but are ALWAYS boring. She didn't give me back one of my assignments and argued with me like a child when I asked for it back. All in all worst teacher I've ever had.

She definitely expects a lot and can get a tad bit rude. But, honestly, that's her style of teaching. She was the only professor at York who told us the correct way to start, write and end a literature essay! I think she's a brilliant teacher and I didn't mind her episodes of over-expectations. She told us to suck it up and I did!. I respect her!

Judith is a highly knowledgeable professor and I can honestly say I have become a better writer after this class. The course work is hefty but if you ask Judith for help, she is very useful. She is passionate about literature and I loved her lecture and tutorial. I understand the importance of intertexuality in literature thanks to Judith.

she just reads off the slides, and they're full grammatical errors! some of her definitions are even wrong. she belittles her students! she doesn't pause to take up questions.Good thing: instead of thinking of an essay topic on your own, she gives you it and even writes down how you can analyse it, but that's all the help you get! unapproachable.

I absolutely respect Prof. Deitch. She was my TA in HUMA1125, then prof & TA in EN1002. She is intelligent, understanding, composed, patient [at times], soft-spoken, & tells it like it is [which is incredibly amusing!] I learned A LOT from her, & I'm grateful for all her help during my 1st yr at York University. Amazing woman.

Comment:
Professor Deitch is extremely unreasonable. When she does assign readings, there are over 40 pages long and no student should have to use that much paper per class. No one did the readings when I was her student. She expects everything to be her way and will insult you if you don't agree with her opinon. You must also write the way she wants.

Expects WAY too much from her students. I have taken 2 other 3000 level courses and got B+'s in each. Suddenly, when I come to her class I get C's. Had a student tell her she didn't give us enough time for the in-class essays, then proceeded to tell us collectively to "suck it up". I understand you have a PHD in English, but I do not.

I've heard good things about this prof for upper level courses but her first year course made me really dislike her. Her slides are crowded and unclear. She reads verbatim from the slides. She is not interactive with the class at all and does not make an effort to keep your attention. She was not approachable if you werent in her tutorial either.

Professor Deitch is my least favorite prof, she is unhelpful and unapproachable. She is constantly belittling students, her lectures are boring and her comments on your work are illegible, therefore unhelpful. She also does not make an effort to be available to her students.

I took a course with Dr. Deitch approx. 10 years ago (2002). She was a wonderful person. She truly impacted my life. I looked her up on this site to see if she was still teaching at York. She made that much of an impact on my life. I truly hope that people respect her and appreciate the work she does.

She's the best English professor I've had. She's hard, but fair. Truly intelligent and insightful -- enables you to develop your own ideas instead of regurgitate what she and other scholars say. If you're open-minded, you can learn a lot from her -- much more than the course requires.

Deitch is an extremely intelligent woman and teaches only because she has to. This professor is struggling with some internal issues which creates a dark cloud around her. If you have her as a Professor and she puts you down in any way, take action and file a complaint. She has no business making anyone feel inadequate. Sets a bad example for York
