She's lenient with deadlines but can be a hard grader on papers. You have no tests throughout the semester. SHe assigns 5 internet assignments which are 2 p reflection on what you seen, 3 essay assignments which are 8 pages (these essay assignments help test your knowledge of content in class). THen you have one final project which is 10-12 pages

Professor Holmes means well, her lectures can get boring fast, but the topics are fairly interesting. The quizzes and tests are really fair. Easy A if you do the readings or take notes in class. She expects class participation but doesn't force it.

Professor Holmes is the reason I was able to graduate on time! Senior year I blatantly did not do some homework and/or papers and she let me complete them at the end of semester. Otherwise, I would have failed! I took several of her classes because she is very understanding and not ridiculously strict like some of the other legal professors.

Wicked easy, but she teachs like the students are small children or mentally retarded. Wicked boring even if you like the subject. Class attendance is mandatory.

Nicest person and is one of the only profs at Umass that REALLY want to help you succeed. Only take the class if you are interested because it is annoying when other students talk throughout the class period. Tests are graded a little hard but there is an opportunity for extra credit. Participation in a big part of the grade.

Professor Holmes is a great teacher. She is always willing to meet with you during office hours and to help you out. Not only does she really know her stuff, but she is very nice and understanding. I found her lectures very interesting too.

Torture was a good class, it's not 387 anymore and it's a lecture with discussions, but she is a really good teacher. Totally understanding when the entire class didn't do the reading for the day. Essay tests were pretty easy if you half paid attention. TA Jeremy is kinda a tool sometimes but he will really try to get you a good grade.

Very different than Leg 450. Doesn't allow expression of differnet opinions, and seems annoyed many times when students voice input. Doesn't know how to control her "defense attorney" instincts and counter what ppl have to say. Good for Leg 450 but beware in Leg 480; you will learn a lot, but it might not be a pleasant experience.

almost insultingly easy for a junior year writing class. went over things like comma usage. no long paper assignments, just lots of fairly short ones. allows you to make up any assignment for a grade increase. nice person and dedicated professor.

Easy course, for those of us who know how to write well. BUT, class does not prepare students for law school, as instructors hold your hand the entire time. Spoon fed class, as assignments are done just like they were in 4th grade.

A good professor - very professional. I don't know why other people say you can't have your own opinion with her; its not an issue at all. All of the assignments are do-able, two of which are somewhat difficult. A last chance to learn excellent grammar.
