She is a kind and intelligent person but her classes are pretty boring unless you are really into poetry and nature themes. Her tests seem easy but are graded kind of random and each count for a third of your grade so taking detailed notes in class is crucial.

I feel I don't really know this professor b/c she cancelled class so much due to personal issues -- usually without a note or an email, I might add. I found her lectures pretty boring, and she was overly fixated on lesbianism among women writers/writing, and I never got the whole "focus" thing we had to pick for tests. Not hard, but FAR from a joy.

Professor James is very knowledgeable about the material. Due to personal issues, she had to cancel a lot of classes, but worked very hard to make up for it. Classes were interesting and there were never any papers. I didn't like some of the selections but that didn't hurt me in class discussions or grading.

I really thought this class would be more difficult than it has been. I don't even have a book--I just read the poems/stories online (they're usually easy to find). I've read most of the stories before but it's interesting to hear a new spin on it, I guess.

she is one of my most favorite teachers! she is absolutely brilliant, never dry; classes are usually long, but worth your while. it won't kill you if you miss a few classes; just make sure you read. no papers to write, and the exams are very easy if you've read. i can't say enough good things about her, she's a lovely person.

If you aren't an English major or don't like reading, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The material is bogus & she doesn't try to explain what things mean, she expects you to understand right away. The tests are all writing, even though this isn't a writing class... I repeat LOTS OF READING!

Professor James is pretty good. She is big into Emily Dickinson, which I can't stand, but she gets into that whole "womanhood can't be explained and doesn't need to make sense" thing. She is a fan of girls but will go out of her way to be extra nice to guys who show some interest. Take her class.

She is pretty boring and it SUCKS that attendence is taken because the lecture is so unnecessary and doesn't help for better test grades. The tests are short answer and strictly about the stories so all you need to do is read them- at least 3/4 of them.

This is a bizarre class.I think she's a little off, if you know what I mean. The class is ridiculously easy. I've gotten A's on all the tests without reading a thing. You don't have to buy the books because she finds web sites with the readings for you.
