Comment:

Judy is a great professor. She is passionate about each class she teaches and she made me just as passionate. Judy is one of those professors who truly help their students realize their potential, and also would never dance around an issue if there was one. I am hopefully to have her again in my remaining years at Brock.

Comment:

This class was obnoxiously frustrating. I learned very quickly that the best way to please Judith was to do whatever she wanted. If you would like to do well in this class, avoid thinking for yourself. Instead, think of the words "subversive, morbid and dark." I would try to recomend avoiding cliches, but Judith is often contradictory.

All over the map with critiques. Would say one day she liked what you are working on in studio time then rip it apart in cit. Her favourite word is "contrived", get used to it if you have her. I found that hiding my work from her until the actual day of the crit was more beneficial than having her see it in advance. Very moody, terrible prof.

WORST PROF EVER!! I LOVE drawing and art has always been a passion in my life. Judy was someone who made me doubt my passion for art. She was not helpful at all. It was her way or the highway. she played favourites and never appreciated a student who seemed to progress and grow. after 2 years..still have NO idea what kind of artist she is.

I agree with the March19th comment.. terrible professor.. i absolutely hated going to her studio. She does not give advice, guidance or encouragement. She will comment on your work--in the rudest way. Critiques are poorly organized & agonizing to be a part of. I didn't learn ANYTHING from her or her classes. Im avoiding her this year.

absolutely clueless, completely unprofessional, unhelpful, assignments were lame and poorly thought out, sometimes I feel that she just plain doesnt get art. WRONG PROFESSION. one of the most incompetent, unscholarly instructors ever, complete waste of time. I want my money back.

She expects you to do good work and is often helpful in developing your ideas as she is a mountain of knowledge. She is not really helpful when you are working, and almost refuses to actually teach you about technique and style hands-on. She's very fond of slides etc, but not helping you in person. She's not good with critques. -> Needs to take nap

Judy is a good teacher, sometimes. She changes her mind rather frequently about what she likes. It takes her a long time to warm up to her students, however, if you're building a portfolio, you'll be able to add to your portfolio for sure when you're done any class with her, she has so many different assignments it turns out to be helpful.

Judy is very opinionated about what she likes and dislikes, however I found that she was quite clear with her instructions and good at getting us to experiment and leave our comfort zone. In first year thats what you need to do in order to improve your own artmaking.

I totally agree with the previous comment!! I think that Judy is a great artist but I feel that if she doesn't like the art we've made, we won't do well on it! That's not fair at all!! And who doesn't like Salvador Dali?? UGHH!! I thought I had improved by the end but judging by my marks I hadn't. I felt very frustrated in her class.

Excellent teachers, pushes you to do your best, great critiques. Clear assignments, but lets you do your own thing. Shows her own work as examples. I have never seen a class improve so much from her teaching.
