He's a hard teacher but he really knows his field. If you go to him for help, he is more than willing. It also help if you express interest in something you are doing in class. You will not get an A in his class. If you do, it's because you worked VERY hard.

I had Hartzel many years ago as part of the course in Renaissance Culture Studies. He gave the music lectures and I really enjoyed them. Seemed a bit aloof, but brightened up when you asked him questions about music. He really knew everything! I loved it.
