This class was awesome and crazily interesting. Kai is hilarious to talk to, and he makes class very entertaining. Lots of the conversations in class will seem to be off-topic, but he manages to make them all tie into the subject he introduces. As long as you come to class, you'll be fine.

Incredibly interesting class. Consisted of 3 grades: participation, a very straightforward midterm, and a final project. These tend to vary slightly every semester but generally it comes down to these three things. Just read the literature, come to class, and listen to him and participate in discussion. Very intellectual discussion based class.

He's a wonderful instructor. Most definitely one of the most interestingly humorous people I have ever encountered. He genuinely cares about the topic (Faust), but you can tell he really cares about how the students engage in the class. I would recommend the class to anyone.

He's very smart, funny and witty. I learned a lot about not only the Faust theme, but about German culture. Great teacher, fun class. He made us think and kept things interesting. We got off topic a lot, but even then, I was still learning. There's a lot of reading though, and Thomas Mann's Doktor Faustus is a tome.... start it early.

This guy is an AWESOME teacher. I have a feeling this class would be IMMENSELY boring if it were not for the fact that he taught it. I got an A- in the course and I really didn't do that much work, so I would definitely recommend him!

Hammermeister is hysterical, incredibly smart and open to new topics of discussion. The first 30 min of class have nothing to do with the material - but he makes you think. He is by far, without a doubt, my favorite professor of all time. Plus, he's incredibly sexy.

Please disregard anyone who says that is class is EASY or that you do not have to do the reading. The class is definitely a lot of work. If you do not a good background on German history, as well as on Art and Music, don't take the class. He is a nice person, but not someone you want for an easy A

Dr. Hammermeister is a pretty good teacher. His lectures are ussually pretty interesting and he tries to keep the class interested and involved. There is a lot of reading assigned, but I didn't really do any of it. Overall, I would recommend taking this class, its not too much work and he grades very easy.
