In the begining this class seemed promising but it trned out to be a major disappointment! Yes the prof is friendly and funny but he seems really vauge in his lectures and the material which is hard to follow along. The text book is not much help eaither and the same goes with the notes. Take this class with someone else

I thought Karl was a great prof! He was friendly, always tried to make cute little jokes, and he made the course clear. I thoroughly enjoyed his class. I think he's the cutest little man, and he looks like John Locke from Lost!!!!

I took Pfeifer's logic class several years ago. Great class for comp sci students. Learned a lot that is still useful to me.

At least he tried to make things more clear. Still, didnt really help that much, but cherish the days with him, because if you take Dwyers second half of 110 you will be begging for Pfeifer in a week. At least he seems to enjoy teaching and respects students opinions on the materials. Dwyer just blew up at everyone who thinks different than him.

Ok, I cant believe this but after taking his half of 110 and then Phil Dwyers awful attempt for the last half, I can honestly say I am truely surprised that I found a prof worse than Pfeifer. Actually wish he could take over Dwyers crappy classes again. At least his monotone voice makes it easier to sleep, compared to Dwyers arrogant rants.

this is not like a typical arts claass, it's more like a science class. Theories and terms are constantly being defined and then presupposed in following classes. If you don't keep up you won't know waht's going on. Prof is almost always available in his office and very approachable.

Impressive class and a real eye-opener for me. Not a straight logic class, it questions the "logic" behind formal logic. I recommend it to other comp. sci. majors.

Don't take this guys class. It is unbearable. I go to all my classes except this one. Its that bad. The prof can't keep the classes attention and you'll find that attendance is around 1/3 of the class size. This guy likes his class but can't make it interesting for most of the students. I took this class as an elective and really wish I droped it

At first, I REALLY tried to like him, because I knew you had to really know your prof, especially when it comes to things like philosophy. Clearly, his brain works on a different level and he doesn't take the effort to help us get there (yay, laziness AND arrogance). He speaks monotonously, as if he's less interested in it than you are. Draining.

Extremely uninspired/low energy.Doesn't seem to prepare for lecture-simply reads text on powerpoint in monotone voice. Is awesome compared to the grad student who will mark you papers. She is absolutely unreasonable and will give a 100% paper a 60% just because it doesn't line up with her skewed skeptical beliefs and horrible/incorrect arguments.

He is a smart guy but whoever marks the papers is terrible. This class should be a 300 level, not 100. Goes thru stuff fast and doesn't clarify too much.

The prof is basically ok but the class draged because no one was willing to speak up and discuss the stuff on the slides as the prof intended. I stopped asking questions in class because I didn't want to be the only one.

I was just taking this class for an elective...I would not recommend it unless you HAVE to take it. I have taken other philosophy classes and I found this one extremely hard to sit through. Yes he does post pdf.'s of his notes but even then most of the class was still lost. Maybe I had the wrong mindset but everyone I talked to had no idea either.

Hey, this prof doesn't deserve to be trashed. Getting pdf's of the slides in advance made taking notes in class real easy. Total term work 2 short papers of 6-8 pg isn't too much & he actually went to the trouble of re-grading the 2nd essay & raised most of the TA's marks. I'd rank him in the top 30% of profs I've had. Not evryone gets his humour

At first I got a poor mark because I didn't know how to write a philosophy essay. With the help of the professor and the writing centre I aced the next one. The course may be boring in parts, but there were some really good parts too. I learned a lot & the final was very fair. The professor seemed demoralized by the poor attitude many students had.

Mill and utilitarianism are BORING and having to write an essay on it was brutal, but I have to admit the section on aesthetics was really interesting. The prof used lots of art slides to explain things, which I enjoyed so much I just registered for an art history course.
