While Karon tries her best to ensure that students learn the essentials of HCI, often it can be ambiguous as to what her expectations are. She emphasizes learning goals and you need to know them very well in order to do well on the exams. HCI is not a memorization type of course, as you need to justify your thoughts rationally and comprehensively.

Project is lame. My grp picked something easy, long descriptions, bs answers, alot of wasted time. I basically did half a day's reading the notes b4 the midterm and final (gotta memorize alot), skiped lectures and did alright.. The 'tests' were bs however, q's on guest's and ubc policy docs, w/e.. dont mis lec aftr MT she gives bouns marks! doh!

I never asked for help outside of class, so don't know how helpful she is. I thought her notes were confusing (just weird wording to me), but if you study carefully under their subtopics, you should do fine on the tests. Know the terms/vocabulary. The material learnt in this course is applicable to work, so I do recommend this prof and this class.

Worst marking scheme ever, very unprepared and hurried for all materials covered. The class was in constant dispute about marks. Testing materials were unclear, marking scheme was unclear. You basically have to read and learn yourself. The lectures were not useful to me at all. Tutorials were more helpful than the lectures.

She's too busy, no interaction with students outside the class. First Midterm avg was 50% with 76-78 as the highest mark. The class is a total chaos except for the lab which does not help the students to do the midterm. Notes are disorganized and covered too much materials. Overall I think she is not well prepared for the class.

i learned nothing from this class. neither she nor the TA's are very helpful. and it's hard to get hold of them. TA's markings are very, very tough! almost unreasonable. this course takes up a lot of your time. to me, it's too much work/time put into sth that's not all that useful. a lot of BSing.
