Comment:

In class assignments require attendance, but lectures are basically summary of book. Solomonson makes the material interesting and makes great points. Study and you'll do fine on tests. TA communication seems to be lacking and they often are confused about the criteria of assignments.

Comment:

Kate really cares about her students. When possible, she tries to avoid making the paper deadlines when students are very busy. She is also very helpful if you email her any questions and it's clear she wants you to succeed. Not an arch major but she made the class interesting and possible for any major to succeed in without too much work.

Comment:

Kate is very passionate about her teaching and knows a lot about the history of architecture. That being said, be ready to memorize a lot of useless facts about the buildings. Like who built it, when, where it was built, and the name, along with how the building is significant. Lecture is extremely boring... and I often fall asleep. TESTS are hard.

I really enjoyed this class. Kate certainly has a passion for Art Architecture history and it shows. Even when describing seemingly boring details, she showed enthusiasm. Very informative lectures in which I learned a lot. I enjoyed going to lecture!! Expect essay quizzes short papers and a timeline project. I would recommend taking this class.

Kate is awesome! You can tell she loves the subject matter because she's always smiling and describing even boring things with passion. It is contagious and I've grown more interested in the subject because of her. teaches in a way that the info sticks! Tests require preparation and detail, but the essays and papers are enjoyable and interesting

Kate is a wonderful teacher, it always makes such a difference when a teacher really enjoys teaching and learning herself. Class attendance never seemed particularly mandatory so it shows a lot that everyone showed up anyways. one of my favorite teachers, I plan to take more classes with her in the future.

Really excellent teacher. I have almost no interest in the material, but she (and the TAs) make it bearable. Flexible, reasonable, and cares that people are learning. The exams require a lot of preparation (you have to write multiple short essays). Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go you'll miss important info that's not on the slides.

Kate is absolutely awesome. It's a shame now that she's Assistant Dean that she doesn't teach as many classes because she is a fabulous teacher and really cares about the students. Definitely my favorite teacher so far--I would take any class she taught.

Never had to dread coming to this class. Slides every day, but she makes it interesting and has so much to say! Papers were laid back and almost fun to write. Does a good job preparing you for tests. Great prof! Fun class!

Comment:

Professor Solomonson is a great professor. Very intelligent. Very nice to students. The world would be a better place if there were more profs like her. Take anything will her and you won't be sorry. I'd give higher than a 5 rating if that were possible.
