Super nice Professor, class is not easy but taught Humm well enough so I did not hate it. Quizes at the start of every class, then discussions follow till the end. Do your reading because if enough people aren't talking she will call on randos which is fair. Essays she is pretty fair. Lot of reading but makes class modern so interesting.

Mapes is a sweetheart and very good at what she does. However, if you're one to skip class a lot or to not listen well during lectures, you won't do well in this class. Be prepared to take a lot of notes and do the readings. If you can do that, you'll be fine. Midterm, final (not cumulative), easy "pop" quizzes, and a paper based on 3 books.

She gives lots of reading with little time to complete it but she grades fairly easily. Part of your grade is based on reading quizzes which are easy 100s, but the majority is based on papers throughout the semester. She doesn't grade very hard and i put in little effort on all my papers and got As.

Absolutely love Mapes. One of the best professors in history. This is my second class with her and I plan on taking more. Gets very excited about the topics. Midterm and final are very straightforward, asks class what they think should be on it, no surprises. Finals for her classes have been exactly like midterm, and NOT cumulative :)

Best professor I've ever had. I was feeling uneasy about a 5 page paper the NIGHT BEFORE it was due so I sent it to her not expecting a full response just a "good" or "no" and she took time to edit the entire thing. Second class with her and will be taking again.

Prof. Mapes was a huge help to me. I'm a member of the L.I.V.E.S Program and she allowed me to participate in her class this semester. It was really hard at times. But she was always willing to meet with me outside of class. She really cares about you, and she inspired to follow my dream of becoming a writer and take a creative writing class.

Mapes is by far one of the best professors I have had in Geneseo, I wasn't expecting for this course to be so interesting but she made me love it a lot. She does give you reading that is by far mandatory, but its not dry reading, its reading that is very informative and helpful to the course. Just pace yourself, be ready for pop quizzesA

For an INTD course, it is a lot of work. Only take the class if you are interested in history, because I'm really not and found myself bored with the books. She gives out tons of reading with little time to do it. She is very passionate about the topics, though, and will be glad to help you when you struggle.

Professor Mapes is very passionate about the topics discussed in her INTD. She assigns alot of reading but it's definitely doable if you have good time management. I hate classes based on student participation like this one but by the end of the semester I was a pro at giving my input. Great Class.

I loved having Mapes as a professor. She took a boring topic, agricultural history, and turned into something both interesting and fun. Class is all student participation and she is an easy essay grader. I got an A- in her class and wrote every paper the night before it was due. Expect to put time in looking for sources, but every 221 is like that.

She is a fair grader, so if you put in the effort you will receive the grade you deserve. Take her class, you won't regret it.

Great professor. There's a fair amount of reading, but if you keep up with it and attend class, it's impossible to fail. The quizzes, midterm, and final exam are very manageable as Mapes tells you exactly what to expect. You will leave her class with a wealth of knowledge and possibly interest.

She is an amazing teacher, i love her! she works with you whenever you have an issue personal or class related.I took her because she was my advisor and i heard she was good. Im taking a 300 level class with her next semester, can't wait! Also, i came into the class with no interest and though rural history would be boring, she prooved me wrong.

Professor Mapes helped me understand what it means to be an historian. Her teaching style gives students the opportunity to think for themselves and come to conclusions using primary and secondary sources. As a mentor she guided me through the graduate school application process and I am now a 5th year Ph.D. student in American History.

Extremely helpful. Able to make a rural history class fun. Don't expect to get off easy with the workload, but worth it when you know how to write scholarly papers at the end.

Mapes is an amazing professor who I would definitely recommend to anyone. She really cares about the students and wants them to do well. A fair grader and extremely helpful both in class and in office hours. 220 and 221 are difficult courses but with Mapes it wasn't bad at all. Very friendly and personable as well as knowledgable and interesting.
