I took the online 338 class that deals with short stories. I bought the textbook but most of the stories that we read could be found online so I wish I had saved the money.

If you enjoy Trivia, you will love his lectures. If you actually want to learn a lot about American Literature, maybe not. He doesn't use a textbook, just posts links to the readings online. Grades are based on a few discussions, two essays, the midterm, and the final. Please participate.

Byerman is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He always talked about his tenure and how the university couldn't touch him. I am an A+ nursing student that takes impossibly hard classes, yet he was my lowest grade. Told me he didn't give perfects on anything. Changed the class topic from "human experience" to "business." Worst ever!

Byerman is very entertaining. he likes to tell jokes. You will read a lot, but you will watch several movies. He has a midterm, which is pretty easy, and a final, and that's it for tests. He does do several quizzes though and you HAVE to read. Check blackboard for discussions, he wont tell you when he posts them. Overall good prof.

Dr. Byerman is a funny guy if you pay attention to his jokes. We watched several films and read several books that were actually interesting even though I''m a nursing major and this was a business english class. Makes you think about the material more. YOU HAVE TO READ If he thinks you haven''t been reading he will give quizzes. Decent class.

Very easy on grading, he likes to see his students try. Struggles with emailing back so I suggest talking with him before or after class.

The books we read and the movies we watched were actually very entertaining if you didn't sleep, sit on your laptop, or text the entire class. Every class was a discussion of what we read before and listening to him made me think differently of the material. If you pay attention the class is NOT HARD.

WORST TEACHER EVER!!! Very Nice, but Boring. I fell asleep in this class many times. Class was easy. Barely e-mailed back. And he is unclear in his directions. During finals he had students showing up at different times. I say this again WORST TEACHER EVER!!! DO NOT TAKE IF YOU CAN HELP IT.

I usually hate literature classes, but I really enjoyed the way that Byerman taught. He didn't over analyze anything, but rather gave the main interpretations of the texts. There's tons of reading, but other than that, the class is pretty alright. Also, make sure you keep up on when assignments will be due because he sometimes forgets to remind you

He knew the material and could explain the content well, but I didn't feel that he explained the assignments clearly. If something was due, he would wait until the day the assignment was due to inform the students. I wouldn't expect him to respond to too many questions, as he was next to no help with me.

This class taught me much about writing effective persuasive essays; however, he was a bit unclear early on with what he wanted in his essays which is essential to know for a class graded on subjectivity such as a writing class. Definitely participate in class and try to ask for feedback even though he makes people feel uncomfortable around him.

I thought he did a pretty good job. He always lectures until time runs out (So you get your money's worth). It's not really a class to slack off in though. He makes you take periodic quizzes to make sure you're on track with the reading. For one project, you present over an unsolved murder case. My advice-- pick a case you know and like.

Interesting class. He teaches outside of the box. There is a lot of classroom discussion that makes a person view things from both sides of the story. He argues both sides of a conflict/problem in order to get people thinking more openly. This class really does help critical thinking skills. There were a few papers to write. They weren't hard

Excellent professor--if you pay attention you can learn a lot. Tests are easy if you read the required material. Lectures can get boring, but more often than not he points out things you'd never think of. Apporach his class with an open mind, and you'll actually get a lot out of it.
