I had Dr Harling for BU481. Policy and Strategy. Most of the classes were case based so as long as you read and were prepared to talk about it you were a-ok I sat in the front row so I was seen raising my hand and my participation marks were fine as a result.

Does not give good feedback. Bases marks for hand in assignments off being able to know exactly which points he thinks are relevant, but does not discuss this in class at all. Participation is important and worth a lot of your grade - know your case facts.

Turns a potentially exciting, case-based class into a boring lecture of normally useless material and a regurgitation of case facts (if done, case analysis will only take up 5-10 minutes of class). Values quantity over quality in class participation. If you're loud he'll pay attention to you. Doesn't provide clear guidance on assignments.

Be careful where you sit in his class.. participation is very important and he ignores entire sides of the room. I have never left another lecture as frustrated as I did with Professor Harling's. I would come to class prepared and ready, and he would never turn sideways and select my hand!

Professor Harling is a top notch lecturer. His classes are engaging and he will try to help you out if you show the effort. It is possible to get perfect on participation but not easy. Overall great prof, definetely reccomend

Participation is a huge part of the class. Expects you to have read and done analysis for each case. Picks people at random to answer his questions. Very knowledgeable prof and does care for students. A bit of a tough marker but approachable.

Listen to the whining undergrads who can't handle a prof that challenges them. What are you doing at this school? You should be off getting your diploma from Devry. Harling expects you to have done your readings and dug deep into cases before class. As a result the classroom discussion is therefore much richer. Top quality prof!

I'm taking 481 right now, WORST PROF I'VE HAD by far, nobody has come close. Like others have said and I am not exaggerating...SWITCH OUT OF HIS CLASS as soon as you see you have him for policy. He doesn't teach, he's very useless and expects ridiculous case hand ins before class of 2 pages single spaced. Save yourself before its too late.

I can not stand to sit through a single lecture. He does not prepare you for examinations, refers to useless case facts, and is not helpful when approached. I would recommend switching classes in order to avoid a semester filled with anguish.
