Comment:
Haggerty makes you read many of his own papers which I found pretentious. He posts very vague lectures online so you need to go to class as this is all he posts. His exams are tough and questions are arbitrary - low averages. The papers he grades at a much higher level than a 200 course, very frustrating for someone who gave no criteria

One of my favourite courses in my final year. Very interesting content, and he is very passionate and knowledgable about the material, and an engaging lecturer. 2 short papers and midterm/final both MC. No textbook, just papers and articles uploaded online.

While I found the topics to be interesting and I found him to be respectful most of the time, he was also very arrogant and rude. We had a ton of readings that we had to have read, analyzed, and prepared to discuss (which is fine), but if he didn't like what you had to say he would simply shut it down or ignore you. He also had no proper rubrics.

This class is so interesting and Kevin is definitely passionate about this topic. Definitely go to class as he says more than he puts on the slides. One midterm, 2 papers (1000 then 1800 words) on VERY cool topics, then the final. I would 10/10 take the class again, highly recommended - if you show up and do the work easy A

Lots of reading each week, that you must be ready to analyze and discuss in a thorough manner. If youre not making comments he thinks are worth continuing, he basically ignores you. He doesnt want any specific structure/citation method for papers and any instructions can be found in about 3 different places, often contradicting.

Wish I had read the ratings before I took this class. Obviously others did as we're in a huge lecture room that's not even half full listening to a prof who just wants to be center stage. Ugh, bad choice, avoid.

Take this class when you have a lighter course load! Each week you're given 3-4 academic articles to read and analyze, and you have to be prepared to present them. It is not a class where you can avoid or breeze over the material. BUT the material/discussions are super interesting! I can wholeheartedly recommend this class, you just can't be lazy.

This guy just loves himself. An interesting topic but all he wanted was to hear himself talk about leading the field. How does someone make a fascinating topic the worst? When its all about him. Exams were ok but lectures were torture.

At first I thought this class would be interesting, But, the class actually was rather dry for me. The mark is deeply based on participation, so if you do not like to talk in front of others this would not be a good class to take. Tons of reading and rather dry readings too. If I knew then what I know now I would not take this class.

The course material was very interesting, and Haggerty definitely knows his stuff. Although he marked both essays ruthlessly. There was no rubric and when I asked him where I lost marks he was vague and ambiguous. I got absolutely no help, and didn't know where to improve for next time. He likes to talk about himself a lot. Not a GPA boosting class

Sociology of Surveillance is an excellent course.Readings are very informative, yet some are dull.Tests are not easy.PPL r complaining they are unfair, not so much, just need to pay attention and listen to what he says.Pick up key terms while reading, he tends to test on those.Paper was fun and easily marked.AMAZING lecturer and absolutely brilliant

Kevin is a good prof for a very interesting course. Engaging and uses media, keeps things fun. His exams are tough and tricky so arm yourself by reading the text thoroughly. Classes aren't mandatory, but there's no reason to skip - overall good prof, great course.

He lectures well, but has no concept of how to write a fair exam. He tests petty details from the textbook when he clearly stated in class he would not do that. Overall if you take this class make sure you don't miss any lectures and start your essay far in advance.

Very interesting topics. Was discussion based, so all students' opinions and input were taken into consideration. Very fair marker. Was a great prof, I really enjoyed his teaching style. Would definitely recommend for higher level courses!

He is so picky. He chooses the smallest of facts to test on instead of the larger picture you should be learning. Half of his tests come from the text book which is stupid that he cant teach the material himself. Without the curve, I am not sure if anyone will get a good grade in his class. It was aweful.

This class is not a gpa booster, be prepared to attend every class and take notes(he doesn't post any). No curve, so it is difficult to do great. One midterm, one paper, one final. All MC but questions are specific. Not recommended unless you're willing to put a lot of work into this class.

One of those profs that thinks his course is the world's most important course. Usually I love sociology but I struggled in his class because, SURPRISE: I have a life outside of sociology 224? AVOID as an option class.

This prof is extremely interesting and it is obvious he knows his material. He was helpful and approachable despite the large size of the class. Despite that the exams and paper are not curved so it is more difficult to get a good mark, I feel that I learned a lot in this course.
