I am not an econ major so I found this course to be very difficult. However, after every lecture I asked the professor for clarification and he always took considerable time to explain concepts/problems to me. He respects those who work hard. DO NOT ever cheat on his tests, he takes that very seriously. Instant 0, no excuses. Buy his notes for $15.

Read and UNDERSTAND his notes thoroughly before coming to class. Do his problem sets. Do NOT miss class because he'll tell you concepts and problem sets to skip or focus on. When you get your tests back, look over the M/C you got wrong (or most of the class got wrong) because he will test you on a few of them again for the next test. GOOD LUCK!

Comment:
Most Econ profs excessively understand the cost-benefit analysis of students attending courses. For that specific reason, Furlong would be extra helpful if you are someone you want to put effort in the course. If you do not care about the course that is when he becomes kind of tough. So, attend classes and ask questions and he will respect you.

Comment:
Furlong is not a professor I would ever take a class with again. I tried taking the same course with him twice, and couldn't pass. I attended every class, listened intently, took it seriously. But he's verbally abusive and spends at least 15% of his time berating students, telling them that they don't have the skill set or ability to succeed.

He was an amazing Prof. Take him! He is a little intimidating but he really helps students if you ask for help. He bumps all the students grades. You need to study and attend class. Finished with an A

no slides were provided in the course, notes were unclear because he bounces into a lot of examples that are hard to grasp. Contracted prof from UT and he makes sure we know it. Will pick on students in class, if you don't know the answer he uses sarcasm to embarrass you. Stay away from this prof if you're not familiar with econ.

Gives you a sample midterm to complete but, it's not useful for the actual midterm. Do his problem sets those are helpful. His notes make no sense whatsoever. Stay away from him unless your a economics major.

His lectures are confusing and unclear. The notes are even more difficult to understand. It is necessary to understand and do his problem sets. If you haven't taken economics before do not take anything with him.

Not very helpful. Criticizes students often in class for not knowing material when this is an introductory course and he has yet to teach material. Makes you buy his course pack of notes for $10, which is what you need to know for the midterms and final.

Actually a very interesting professor, helps you think of things in terms of Economics. However, he is really hard, his tests are hard and he uses a 1 point marking system within sub questions - you either know it or you don't. He teaches well, but has hard tests. Take him if you don't find getting a slightly lower mark but want to learn Economics

His exams are extremely hard. For the two midterms, it required us to do 80 questions (including calculation, diagram, short answer, multiple choice) within 1h30min!!!... The class covers too much information. The mean of the midterm was around 50, and the most important thing is, he said at the beginning of the class that he would not do the curve

HE'S THE BEST. Buy his notes for $10 instead of the textbook, they're all you'll need. He gives you sample exams that are almost EXACTLY like the midterms/final - if you can do them, you'll be fine. They're mostly short answer but I had a different prof who gave multiple choice exams for 1010 and I missed this prof's class/exams so much!
