Class lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the graded material, he does not teach you for his quizez/tests, despite being a very hard grader. You can probably do well if you do all the readings and are good at learning on your own. He's seems very knowledgeable but he does a terrible job conveying the course material.

Prof Kinshasa is great, his 100 level course felt like a 400. Mostly lecturing and discussions, stay interested and involved. Very little notes - you have to do the textbook reading and pay attention.

So. Excellent professor. Some of the best discourse I've had in a 100 level course, really brings it out of his students. Asks real questions. That said, he's difficult. His tests are off the book mostly so you need to read. A big 10 page paper due at the end too. Lots of room to BS at the final. grades hard at first to scare kids off.

Kinshasa was a chill dude i got a 50 on the first quiz but decided to stay and ended up getting an 80 on midterm, 100 on the paper and 90 on the final...once a few people drop the class it becomes an easy class and he becomes an easy grader, you can text during the whole class but pay some attention

Decent professor. Laziness in this class won't get you anywhere. He's all about working hard, he know his material very well. Tests and quizzes are hard but take notes for EVERYTHING he says! It's vital! Challenging course, but you'll gain a lot of knowledge!!

One word:lectures.He's smart.You might think you're understanding but the exams are different.Random q's are asked so take notes for EVERY thing he states in his class!READ the book for the exams!I studied my butt off.I thought he was going to fail me; he always picked on me b/c I was "different. Hardest class I've yet to take at. John Jay and I'm a senior. Guy knows his stuff, I won't discredit him, but the tests are outrageously hard and unnecessary. It's like he wants you to fail by asking you impossible questions. NOT an exaggeration. Need to memorize the entire African map as far as countries and there's a term paper. STAY AWAY!

OK..so this guy is very nice and wants his students to learn. It is obvious he is not stupid, however he does not know how to transfer his knowledge to his students. He just goes on and on all lecture about complete nonsense that has little to do wit what is on the exam. Once the exam comes you will be screwed. Reccomended for seniors not freshmen.
