Great professor. Amusing and made the Humanities curriculum interesting. Was he a tough professor? Absolutely. But I loved Humanities 1 with him, so I took Humanities 2 with him as well.

Expect to take 3-4 pages of notes per class, and study a few hours per week outside of class. His expectations are high, but this is Geneseo, right? Oh, and don't expect to do well unless you go to class. There's a HUGE difference in opinion between his lectures and his assigned textbook (Miller). Superb professor, though.

Comment:

Quite possibly the worst and hardest professor I've ever had in my college career. Requires you to know an unbelievable amount of information for the exams but only tests you on 1/4 of the information. Unhelpful during office hours and in emails- always feels as though he would rather do anything than help you. Very difficult grading.

This class was a lot harder than I expected and Blackman made it difficult but overall I learned a lot. Go to class and expect to study a lot for exams but if you work hard you will do well.

Wonderful man and wonderful professor. The material was interesting, and he made it a great writing class. It was very easy, but always engaging. Going to class isn't completely neccesary, but definitely helpful. I really enjoyed having Blackman for a professor.

Classroom instruction is often meandering and lacking in structure, and at times he didn't explain things as clearly as he could have. Also, I FAILED the course because of an incomplete essay, even though the essay was incomplete due to a trip I had to take due to a death in the family, and I would have passed otherwise. He refused to compromise.

Comment:

Dr. Blackman is a very good professor. Very fair grader, gives the test study questions ahead of time. Make sure you know them! Doesn't go out of his way to trick you. Helpful outside of class. Lectures could be a little boring at times, but he was very passionate and made it interesting nonetheless. Nothing on tests that isn't covered in class.

You have to go to lecture or do the reading in detail. Lecture can be a little bit boring but most of the time he tells great stories. He'll go over something as many times as it takes til you understand it, and he has review sessions for his tests. He's really helpful and kind- a great guy!

Go to every class--he explains everything you need to know about the readings (so you don't really have to read if you can take good lecture notes). He reveals 2/3 of each exam in advance, so there aren't many surprises. His philosophical slant made class much more interesting. His late paper policy: 1 pt (out of 100) off for each CLASS DAY late

This guy is the worst teacher I have ever had. He rambles and makes no point ever. First test I wrote everything he said from my notes, and after getting a 43, I told him the answer was exactly from my notes, and he says "just because I say it in class doesn't mean it's the correct answer." My paper received a 51, and that's when I "W" the class

lots of fun even for a non-phil major. lecture is hillarious. dont hate him for having ideas that may unsettle you. just be willing to do the reading. tests are very fair - you get out what you put in w/ studying. always there for office hrs to answer questions or read over papers. his late policy = the greatest EVER. not worlds hardest grader.
