Comment:

She is tough, but she is for good reason. BW Music Ed majors get jobs for a reason because they are some of the best teachers and students around. She has amazing connections and is willing to help you achieve success as a student and future educator, you just have to ask and show her respect, just as anyone deserves. One of the best Ed professors.

Great professor that truly cares about the success of her students. That doesn't mean she let's them slack, though. She also has crazy connections. Work hard and don't miss meetings and she will pull strings to help you succeed. Can be hard to get ahold of her, but she does so much and it's understandable. Give her time and she'll help you out

Prof. Joss is one of the best on campus! She really cares about each of her students and wants us all to succeed! :) All the people who commented previously hold grudges over really dumb mistakes they made. She is one of the most thoughtful and caring people at B-W and I am honored to have her and be apart of one of the top music ed schools.

Whoever rated her 4/15/04 sounds a lot like her. She picks favorites and if your not what she wants, she'll do almost anything to make you want to leave. Once I left music ed., she acted as if she didn't even know who I was. Totally out of touch; very cold harsh personality and not relatable on any level whatsoever! Ugh. Good riddance!

I must respond to the previous post. When does any student EVER deserve to be treated meanly by a teacher? It is an educator's job to project a good example to their students. When is it ever a good example to be mean to a student in front of a class? I cannot agree that ANY student ever deserves to be chastised or belittled by a teacher.

I have been teaching for a bit since having had this professor and I'd have to say that I learned more from her about how NOT to treat students than anything else. This woman has to have serious emotional and psychological problems to think that the way she treated students was ok. I will NOT recommend BW for music ed until she is gone.

Joss was a wonderful public school teacher, but is NOT what a professor and adviser should be. She thinks of her teaching as "tough love" and weeding out the teachers that aren't good enough to be there, but she should be inspiring teachers to spread their love of music. Also did NOT provide a letter of reference, even though she was my adviser

I transferred from BW a little over a year ago because of this woman. Her goal in life is to make future teachers quit. She plays favorites and if you are not one of her favorites good luck passing. There is something wrong when your intro class started at 33 and the class graduate at 7 people. If you are thinking about going BW for Mus ed... DONT!

Professor Joss will be your best friend, until you cross her. Once you do that there's no going back. She uses language that is makes her sound distant from her class. She also leaves her coat on through the entire class/rehearsal. This makes her look like she's always ready to leave. also, after she broke her leg she wore one heel and one snaker.

Horrendous person. You can not email her, she never responds. Wanted me to be in two places at one time. She said, "I will gout of the way to help my students, even it means canceling something of my own plans" I emailed her with some questions,never got a response. Plays favorites, totally looks down on talent lower then her expectations!

Came up to ME and told me she wanted me to play for her! Although I've witnessed her "b****-switch" once, I think she's just amazing-- she knows her stuff! She's never had less than a smile on her face when talking to me, but she may pick favs. Very bold, up-front-and-in-your face... but an AMAZING teacher and director. Keep on her good side :)

Very few pepole could have left an entire class of college students in tears when she announced that she might leave. Yes, she is human, and those who complain about her gossipping are commiting the very same crime by posting that online. Shes good at helping you grow, she just doesn't seem to like it when students don't think they need change.

She makes me sick. This woman brought me down and killed my dreams of being a music teacher. she told me that I would drop music ed. in our first meeting and when I did, she seemed pleased. She also gave me a zero on a paper because I had a different opinion than her and basically told me I was over-priveleged and unappreciative.
