LOVE THIS CLASS its super easy to do well in the labs. If you don't get over 95% you are not reading the lab instructions. Laura is so sweet and kind. She made it almost impossible to not do well in this course

Comment:

Easy, straightforward exams, and the lecture notes contain all the material you need. I still recommend going to class though--her explanations are really helpful. Stickler for the rules--if you miss one of the homework quizzes, you won't be able to make it up. Offers bonuses on assignments. Very dedicated professor--showed up with broken arm.

Comment:

Took this class to fulfill a breadth requirement. The content is a bit dated but not as bad as you'd think. Everything in the course is really easy especially if you already have background knowledge on computers. Laura is also hilarious in lectures some times. Overall for a 1st year compsci course it's worth taking, especially for the easy mark.

Laura is not only one of the best professors but an even greater person! She truly cares about the success and understanding of her students and will not leave you with questions. I took two of her classes (CS1046 and CS1033) and she was just an absolute pleasure to learn from.

Amazing prof! Many opportunities for extra credit, easy to approach and ask questions, there are no tricks with her assignments or exams, makes the content as easy as possible by using a variety of presentation material. Textbook is not necessary, she is very good at conveying information and gives very good examples.

Comment:

Databases I with Laura is an easy credit for anyone doing a Comp Sci degree. She is very lenient, gives easy assignments, provides open book quizzes (which you can do online if for any reason you like skipping class), and is easy to reach for help (though she may be as lost as you are!). Either go to class or read the textbook and you'll do well.

The whole class was easy with the exception of the final. It was more than a 100 MCs with little time to do all of it. Biggest tip would be to study like mad for the final.

A very good teacher who makes all clear and is always here to answer questions if you don't understand. Assignments take time but it easy to have a good mark. If you work regularly, quizzes and exams aren't difficult.

The course is way too outdated - but still very simple. I didn't attend any lectures and finished with an 87%. The assignments are not really related to the course. Make sure you study hard for the final. Lots of content to memorize due to no mid-term. Have fun with the 2005 internet Dreamweaver assignments. Beware of extremely loud videos. :)

She clearly admitted to not knowing how to use some of the software in the course in the first lecture. Yet she expects us to know it. The assignments have nothing to do with the course. She tricks you into thinking you're doing well on the assignments and then drops a bomb on you on the exam.

Is not confident on what she teaches and teaches in a disorganized manner with unclear due dates. That said, she is a delightful person and a sweetheart. If the whole class is having trouble with something in an assignment, she will make it bonus marks. If only the deadlines and due dates were more predictable & organized.

This is a bird course, and even she acknowledges that on the first day! She is extremly kind and tries to make class interesting.. for what little it's worth.
