dont buy the book. u wont need it. 1 report, 2 tests, study guides given a couple days before. 1 essay on each test, and 5 questions about various ppl or things, all in study guide. notes taken in class are pointless, just use wikipedia to find answers for study guide and youll get an A. if attendance wasnt important, i would only go for the guide.

I don't know how someone could rate him poorly. TAKE HIST 162 with him! He's a great, kind man...sure his class is boring, but its easy and you can't complain. Gives the midterm and final questions before hand for you to study...easy stuff folks.

worst professor ive had. completely un-inspired and teaches the same stuff the establishment has shoved down our throats since grade school. All powerpoint and im sure hes used the same slides for the past 10 years. he really should re-think his decision to be a professor. complete waste of time and does a disservice to his profession.

Whatever you do, do NOT take a class from this professor.He had a stroke Spring 05 and the man my be nice but he honestly is NOT competent enough to teach students.If you honestly feel comfortable with 15 min awkward silences while he waits for someone to answer have at it.And he is not cooperative in talking about grades whatsoever. Dr. Jelinek was a good professor. His lectures were good primarily because he used power point presentations to back everything up - the visual learning effect works to make this class go by faster. I would take another History class with him. Very nice sense of humor...once he gets to know you.
