Nelson is the absolute best. You can tell which students he likes, but if you're working hard and showing that you're interested you'll be one of them. Learned so much. Simply superb. Don't ever be late though; late is bad.

Nelson is extremely passionate about what he teaches and does a great job engaging students. Classes are discussion based which is interesting and he really challenges students to think. Lots of reading and reading quizzes, and attendance is very important to him. Students learn a lot and taking him is worth not receiving the best grade

Super chill and interesting guy. Always brought us food to class. We watched movies on ethical arguments in class then discussed. No tests, no homework. One 3 page paper that is a reflection of an ethical issue that interested you. Highly Recommend!!

Nelson's PHIL 7 Ethics in Medicine class was very interesting. He is kind of a hard-ass, and you DEFINITELY have to do the readings (quizzes almost every day). As long as you do the readings or at least read the summaries of them you will be fine and feel like the class is easy. Two short easy papers and then the final paper. Overall enjoyable.

Be aware that Nelson structures his upper div courses like law school courses. The classes themselves are pure discussion, often very engaging discussion, and the grades come from papers. But also be aware, his papers are BEASTS. I have never taken a more difficult take home final, ever. He's not sadistic though, he just wants to challenge you.

Nelson is by far the best teacher I've had. He's a hard teacher and a tough grader, but he works with you when you need help and sincerely cares about his students. He is engaging and focuses on group discussions; he will challenge everything you say until your argument is sound. Having him as my professor was worth the course's heavy workload.

Professor Nelson is one of the best teachers I've had at SCU. He is engaging and passionate about the material. He'll push you and challenge you but you learn a lot this way. He is a fun guy too. Work hard in his class and you'll get a ton out of it and do fine too.

Prof. Nelson is by far the best teacher at SCU. He will challenge everything you say and make you defend it for at least ten minutes. He is incredible and passionate about the subject. If you do the reading and challenge him in class you will get an A.

Prof Nelson=best teacher I have ever had. Made me laugh every class and I looked forward going to class. Ethics and Gender was the best class I have ever taken. I learned so much and grew as a person. It is the farthest thing from an easy A, but so worth it. I would HIGHLY recommend prof Nelson! I would have him for all my classes if I could!

The good: very passionate about the subject matter and inventive with how he presents the material. The bad: plays favorites worse than any professor I've had since middle school, is a terrible grader; handwriting is awful comments make no sense then gives a C, and its a lot of work for a core class that is an elective for most students.

This professor was one of the most difficult that I have taken at this school. He plays favorites and if he doesn't like you, you're screwed. He is a really hard grader, you need to start your papers early and talk to him about them often. I wouldn't really recommend this teacher. If you have to take him, best of luck!

This is one of my top favorite classes at SCU. He is intelligent and funny with a splash of crazy thrown in for kicks. He will embarrass you in class but in good humor. He's a bit tough, but you'll appreciate it in the end. Highly recommend! Oh, and DEFINITELY do the readings!

Prof. Nelson is one of the coolest teachers at SCU! He's pretty strict though. Don't be late to his class, he has no problem embarrassing you infront of everyone. And don't forget to do the reading!!! Miss more than 2 quizzes and every one after that drops your grade half a letter grade. Oh. And do really well on your papers!

Probably the best class I have had at SCU. Prof can seem intimidating, but is really just trying to get you to think. Plus he's hilarious!! Do the readings and participate. Interesting topics that everyone should HAVE to take in college. I would take the class over just for the hell of it. Final is intense but if you study you'll do fine.

Most interesting class I've ever taken, but also one of the hardest. Professor comes off as very scary/tough, but if he likes you and you participate a lot then you won't have a problem. Although there are no tests, the papers you have to write are intense and he grades hard. Participation is absolutely mandatory!

This Larry David look-a-like is simply another professor who couldnt hack it in the real word and hides in academia. He couldnt cut it as a lawyer so now he stands in front of college students and tries to intimidate them with his "brilliance" by making references to obscure legal terminology. I didnt read a thing and laughed my way to an A-

Nelson is the most brilliant professor I've ever had the pleasure of being taught by. You cannot coast through his classes---but if you come to class, participate, and do the readings, you really can't go wrong. He is an amazing person and I will gladly take a third class from him next year.

He is intimidating, but also open and personal. A lot of reading which you are quizzed on almost every class. Attendance impacts your grade, so show up. Grades tough on essays, but not unfairly. Topics are intense and hit you in the gut. I'm glad I took this class now that it's over, but it definitely wasn't easy.
