Comment:
Professor Vogel is unlike his philosophy peers at Connecticut College in one important sense- he is unprofessional. He is knowledgeable about his area of study, but I cannot list out all the times Vogel was petty, emotional and downright vindictive. It's a disgrace. He punishes students who aren't people-pleasing. Please avoid any class with him.

Very good guy who really cares about his students. Works hard to help you understand the material through his handouts and e-mails and expects you to do your part, too. He fosters a learning environment where classmates feel comfortable enough to relate philosophical ideas to personal experiences, making for especially interesting conversations.

While his lectures can be engaging and he provides useful handouts to assist with the readings, he's pretty difficult (and intimidating) to talk to outside of class and does not accommodate for extenuating real life circumstances.

Comment:
Least philosophically inclined professor of the department, but incredibly kind if you work hard and participate. Can be a little catty in class and it's obvious if he doesn't like someone. Gives lots of handouts that help with tough readings. Papers are pretty straightforward and if you do the reading you'll ace them. Pretty easy overall.

He's a great guy, really nice and cares about his students. Loves philosophy and enjoys hearing views that oppose his own. Facilitates great discussions, if you get the chance take a class with him.

Go to class, do your work, and show interest in the material (go to office hours!), and you'll be on his good side forever. The people he's not as nice to are the people who don't care about the class. Extremely articulate; the points of the class will never be lost on you if you pay attention.

Very good at facilitating discussions - very open to different ideas, and consolidates them well. Extremely friendly, helpful, encouraging. One of the best philo courses I've taken.

Discussions were OK, grading was somewhat arbitrary, and I think I lost any interest in Philosophy I may have had. He's a nice guy, though.

I found him spiteful. Repeatedly called on me in class to defend war attrocities simply because my father served in Vietnam. Rediculous. A bit of a jerk.
