This class has been one of the toughest ones Ive ever taken. She can be very boring and it can be hard to pay attention. Assignments (which there arent many of) take hours to complete but are worth barely any points. All the points go towards the 3 exams which if you fail you wont pass the class. Do not recommend taking her at all!

OR is a tough class no matter what, Leigh is a good professor for it, however her exams can be tough. If you pay attention in class and do the homework you'll be fine. There is one group project.

Leigh is better than most math teachers I have had, but I think she thinks that we are like five years old. She repeats everything eight times and one or two will do. The hour and 15-minute lecture could probably take 45 minutes at most if she would stop repeating herself. Overall I would take her again though because good math teachers are rare.

Comment:

Leigh is a very generous grader. Because the course is weighed harshly, she makes the course laid back, and she does a good job teaching in her lectures. As long as you take the class seriously and go for help when you don't understand something, you'll do well in this course. The only thing I didn't like was her TA's. They were monotone in the lab

She is very boring and is very hard to pay attention. I had to work in a group for every assignment because I was so lost in the class. She makes you learn everything on your own because her lectures are not helpful at all. The lab is a totally different TA and it was very confusing to follow.

While class was not mandatory, I still went every day. This is by far the hardest class I have taken here. One of the biggest issues is that she struggled with rephrasing the points she wanted to get across when asked for help, everything was only ever described one way.

Does her best with this tough subject. Doesn't curve so you best try your hardest. Very willing to help, great office hours and asks during class. Don't blame her for your shortcomings with OR. Either you won't ever understand it or you're not working hard enough. Most of the time it's ppl not working hard enough. D is passing though

OR 3800 was fairly easy for me, but ONLY because I already knew how to use excel. I didn't already know specifically the things covered in OR 3800, but knowing excel very well made it fairly intuitive. This instructor explained the material, but not in a good way that was very clear. GO TO CLASS otherwise you'll miss one thing and be screwed.

Not a bad looking woman. Not too great of a teacher however. She seems like the type of woman who knows so much about stats that it is hard for her to explain it to kids who have no idea what she is talking about.

She is terrible at explaining and teaching. The exams are impossible and they make up the majority of your grade along with quizes and a group project. If you can take the class with literally anyone except her!!!!!!!

She is the worst teacher I've ever had. She literally cannot focus on one thing. She jumps all around and gets scatter brained so even the easiest of problems seem like rocket science. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!

Not awful but she is very ambiguous. Doesn't give much info about tests. She is all over the place during lectures and gets off track easily. Rambles on a lot and often times does what could be done in 45 minutes in 1 hr 15 minutes. Got a B in her class, it isn't bad if you do the extra homework and pay attention.

She is clearly very intelligent and knows her stuff about STATISTICS. The issue is that she cannot translate the knowledge into teaching. Her scatter-brained approach leaves ideas all over the board, while she tries to simultaneously teach many different concepts; which are not easy to begin with. Tests rarely represent taught material or format.

She is a fair prof. The exams can be tough, but she allows 3 pages of whatever you want to write down to help for the Final Exam. Her grading is also fair and she curved the class avg by a few points to raise me to the next grade level.

Leigh Devine was an absolutely awesome instructor. She really could not have been any better. I know I am in the minority, but I really thought she was a great instructor. She is extremely organized and helpful. I am amazed at the negativity toward her on here.
